This car has been within the family for over 20 years. It is an extremely original car that has recently had significant body restoration. The only new parts used were floors, sills and door skins. Everything else has been restored, including the original bonnet. Interestingly, it has non-standard 'Restall Masterfit' seats which were a period modification allowing far more driving comfort. Being an early car it is quite raw but extremely fast and quite beautiful.

Sold by Justin Banks Cars of Tunbridge Wells in January 2023. Abbreviated seller's description below.

www.justinbanks.com/sold-stock/

This is a 1961 E Type Roadster flat floor, original UK supplied RHD, finished in Cream with a Red leather interior. The car has covered approximately 17,000 miles since 1983. The clock is showing approximately 34,000 miles which may well be genuine but we cannot guarantee it. The car comes with the transferable and highly desirable registration JAG61. It was manufactured on 26 September 1961 and supplied new in Opalescent Bronze by J T Thorpe Ltd to the first owner, Thomas Ash and Co Ltd who kept the car until 1983. An MoT on file shows the car to have covered 16,943 miles at this stage. This fabulous example has since been in the same family, passed from father K Timmins to son I Timmins, a Jaguar enthusiast from whom we recently acquired the car. It has been lavished with improvements and restorations under their ownership.

The history file is huge, dates back to the 1970s and contains almost every invoice and letter regarding the car's progress since acquired by the Timmins family in 1983. Paperwork from 1985 indicates the engine was removed and the block replaced with a blueprint specification engine, the head remains original. The gearbox was overhauled, new clutch plates were added and a huge amount of other work undertaken. The work cost nearly £3,000 in 1985. A full Langford exhaust system was installed in 1991, and the car was extensively restored and updated between 2001 and 2007. New competition wire wheels were fitted and the distributor modified for running on unleaded fuel by Classic Motor Cars. Further restorations were completed in 2004 by Swallow Engineering including the replacement of floor sections and sills, overhaul of the differential and brakes, and full respray to the current colour of Jaguar Cream.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
