Car to be at Coy's auction 11/09
    www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php

    Auction description:
    Lot 412
    Registration Number: SCL900
    Chassis Number: 850162
SCL900 was first registered on the 5th October 1961 and was fastidiously rebuilt to lightweight specification by marque specialists between 1989 and 1995. Its early history is not as well documented as in later years; however, the car still retains its original number plate and is provided with numerous scrutineer tags from race meetings during the early 1980s.

In 1985 the vehicle was purchased by Dr David Flanagan, who embarked upon a ground up restoration on the car in order to use for sprints, rallies, race meetings and road use. Consequently, the engine was fitted with Webber carburettors, taking power output to over 300 bhp. In addition, aluminium bonnet, doors and boot lid were purchased and fitted by renowned panel specialists R.S. Panels for £6,300 in 1990.

Photographic evidence illustrates SCL900 being taken back to bare metal, completely mechanically overhauled (including engine) and re-sprayed to its current colour combination of British Racing Green with beige leather interior.

In recent years this E-Type has been further transformed to fast-road specification with significant improvements made. In 2004 Classic Jaguar Racing were commissioned to build an aluminium monocoque, which took six months to complete and transformed the car into an extremely light and powerful 3.8 roadster. In 2007 a significant mechanical overhaul was completed by DK Engineering, at cost of over £10,000. Since then, SCL900 has had its interior re-trimmed and has a current MoT.

Complete with lightweight Dunlop Racing Wheels from Lynx, stainless steel Bell exhaust system, significant history file, past HSCC papers, V5 registration document, five speed gearbox (original available as separate purchase) and limited slip differential, this E-Type roadster represents a fantastic opportunity to purchase one of the most attractive cars ever to be produced and is evocative of the original lightweights that dominated sports car racing then and historic racing events now.

    Estimate: £65000 - £80000

In addition, aluminium bonnet, doors and boot lid were fitted by renowned panel specialists R.S. Panels at a cost of £6,300 in 1990.

850162 registered SCL 900 was pictured raced at a JDC event at Silverstone in 1981 owned by Jaguar Restorers Oldham and Crowther in Peterborough, UK. Owner Ruth Oldham says in a letter to the E-Type Register News page in April '83 edition of the Jaguar Driver 'SCL 900 modified by the factory for marque racing doesn't suffer from instability at high speed.' Was this a factory Competitions Department modified roadster?

A friend of mine took these two pictures at Oldham and Crowther in Peterborough, UK, on June 2nd 1977. Looks like it (#850162) is / was a normal steel bodied flat floor OTS in Carmen Red that somebody had just taken the front bumper off, replaced the front indicators / sidelights with cheap items, added ANSA exhaust tips and customized the convertible top. Unlikely having been done at Browns Lane. :)

A founding member of the Finnish Jaguar Drivers' Club ry. used to work for Oldham & Crowther back then and he was very creative in coming up with stories that would increase the price of any old car. Cheers!
