    As mentioned on a web board I found:

    High cost of living is forcing reluctant sale of this rare car. This is chassis 850024 with matching body, engine, gearbox numbers )heritage certificate). It has the bonnet locks on the outside, flat floor. The car left the factory July 1961 London and for unknown reason left the factory with D-Type modifications (cams, pistons, flywheel). The car is believed to have been won in a competition held by Daily Mail Newspaper in London in 1961.

    Daily Mail E-type Competition Car - Chassis Number 24
    In 1961, amid all the excitement of the Jaguar E-type launch, the Daily Mail newspaper ran a competition to win one of two examples. It is difficult to appreciate now the impact of the E-type in those days. The vast majority were exported, but those few that remained in the UK would be mobbed. Classic Motor Cars are carrying out a full CMC Jaguar restoration on chassis number 24 roadster, which is one of those two Daily Mail cars.

    All early RHD roadsters were designated for racing, publicity, press and demonstrator use. 850024 was allocated to the Daily Mail for a competition to celebrate the launch of the car in the UK. The car was manufactured on 17 May 1961 and dispatched through Henlys London on 14 July 1961 to Associated Newspapers, Fleet Street, London EC4. The car was finished in Opalescent Gunmetal and registered 303CXR. The competition was won by Marcus Girvan, a 20 year old from Southport, Lancashire and before he could take delivery it was first sent by Henlys London to be displayed in the showroom of the Jaguar agents for Manchester. It was on display there for six weeks and then delivered to Marcus. The prize included tax and insurance for the first year and after ten months Marcus traded in the car and transferred the original registration number to the MGA he bought. This car was written off so the original number was lost. The E Type was later exported to South Africa and returned to the UK in 1998, it was registered LAS711, an age related plate by the DVLA. The car has recently been subject to a full restoration by Classic Motor Cars of Bridgenorth, Shropshire. The nut and bolt restoration took 1,750 hours and on completion the owner transferred 1686RW, an appropriate age related Coventry issue registration number to the car.
