Car pictured in the April/May 1991 Jaguar Quarterly E-Type 30th anniversary issue. "The ex-Sir Gawaine Baillie car, 850008, restored a few years ago and now owned by Dr. Hugh Palmer. The car was one of the seven early competition-prepared E-Types sold to selected private owners."

Info gathered with permission from: www.hendi.nl/xke/main.htm
850008 was one of the seven ZP537/24 modified cars, and was driven by Sir Gawaine Baillie. In 1991 it was reported to have been restored "a few years ago".

From the above June '07 article:
One of the 7 cars prepared by the factory for racing and numbered after Lofty England's car number 1. It was raiced by Gawaine Baillie. The car is pictured on page 58 of Paul Skilleter's The Jaguar E-Type. It retains the original engine and crankshaft as it was not raced extensively. Mike bought it from Terry Larson and it required complete restoration.

It would be interesting to find out more about Sir Gawaine Baillie , his career and his time with This E !

Baillie was an interesting character. One of the last of the "Privateers" (i.e. he funded his own races) & very rich. Was also an avid Stamp Collector (of the British Empire) which was sold a couple of years ago, I think for about $32 million. His obitury appeared in "Jaguar World" in 2004 or 2005.
