Sellers description:
This engine is robust, unbreakable and with a delicious exhaust note. The original engine in this car has been completley rebuilt, and has less than 5,000 trouble free miles on it over the last few years. In the past one year, we again pulled the entire drivetrain for a transmission overhaul, all new seals in the lower engine, gearbox, and a new three piece clutch as well as balancing and rebuilding the driveshaft, a reseal of the rear end and overhaul of all the brakes front and rear and all new hydraulic lines. The car is mechanically impeccable with new radiator and water pump, new alternator and starter, and many other ancillaries. Althouh fitted with th factory air conditioner, I received this car over 15 years ago with no compressor and have never flet the need to recondition the system though it is easily accomplished with more modern rotary units.

The series two had both comfort and practicality upgrades that make it the perfect choice for the driving enthusiast. I have owned the earlier (1965 roadster and 1967 coupe) and later cars (a 1969 coupe and a 1972 V-12 2+2) over 30+ years as a Jaguar owner. I also worked at the British Leyland dealer whn the cars were new. The 1969 2 seater coupe and this 1971 owned ten years apart, were the most enjoyable Jaguars I have ever owned. This car has been with me the longest and only the desire to make some significant long needed improvements in my home is compelling me to sell this beloved and beautiful car while the costs of the home improvements are at an all time low. This was the car I would, "Never Sell" but we must never say never. It will make its new owner a joyful owner and the E type experience for a first timer, or veteran, will be very special with this car. After 14 years of joy, and after much painstaking and high quality "no expense spared" work to this rust free, never wrecked, California car, it will exceed the expectations of its new owner who will consider themself lucky indeed.

I can not list all the work that has been done, but the documentation of it all is included with the car in a large file. Most recently, within the past year, a bare metal repaint with titanium undercoating and massive amounts of body preparation was done at a cost of over $4,000. Problem areas of stress like the louvers on the bonnet, were corrected and reinforced using the best methods of metalworking and the body and paint quality of this car are te only thing that exceed its striong mechanicals. Replated original bumpers were fitted and a BRAND NEW, not refurbished, set of correct Dunlop wire wheels were obtained from Motor Wheel Services in the UK. They were fitted with a brand new set of the correct size redline radial tires and replated, not replica, knock on nuts. The exterior appearance of the car is breathtaking.

Inside a nice reupholstery job had been done to the seats, in good quality leather, and I replaced some of the original wilton wool carpet for a complete set of correct period carpets, added a new set of the great amco Jaguar floor mats, and had the headlining and sun visors replaced. The complete dasnboard cover was replaced with an entire new foam unit from XK's Unlimited and it is a superb part. The door panels were redone to a high standard as well. The rest of the interior is original, and the car has a wonderful tidy feeling, correct and functional with the originl Tri-Band Phillips radio (working) and all gauges working correctly. If you see in the pictures some missing air conditioning ducts, I have since located replacements and will fit them. It is very easy, as they are prone to a knee pushing them in.

Everything about the car is tight, tidy, and a real joy to use. It has not had extensive detailing under the hood, as it is a drivers car and yet externally it is show quality. Some light detailing under hood and this could be a real club trophy gatherer.

I am able to provide the Jaguar Heritage build record certificate on the car, and the tools as shown in the boot include a new correct knock off hammer and original jack and hub adapter. The factory handbook will also accompany the car.
