Current bid $5,655 reserve not met, 7 bids, 9 days left in auction. This auction is based from Pleasanton, California.

Sellers description:
1971 Jaguar XKE
Absolutely Beautiful Example Low Mileage
Well Maintained with Service Records
This particular Jaguar carries VIN NO. AR13994, AR 8777, ENGINE NO. 7R12828-9 and GEAR BOX NO. KE 14055. The recent inspection by a Jaguar specialist / mechanic revealed that the Jaguar has the original engine, transmission, and rear end. The car has slightly over 87,000 miles with documentation of the mileage over the years. While it is almost always impossible to certify the mileage on a Jaguar of this vintage, this particular car runs and drives extremely well and every indication is that the mileage is indeed correct. The repair records also chronologically document the mileage as being correct. It has received a considerable amount of maintenance/repair work during the previous 5+ years and the work is documented in detail by the most recent repair facility. Details of the condition, listed by category are as follows:

COSMETIC CONDITION / BODY & PAINT
The Jaguar has received a re-paint in a striking shade of bright red. The XKE has always been garaged, and has clearly been a fair weather, weekend sports car for many, many years. Every indication is that it has been a pampered and prized possession of what is reported as three owners.

When the car was re-painted it received a complete re-paint including the doorjambs. As a result, the car has very consistent paint that is in very good overall condition. The paint is very high gloss, and although it is not painted to a show quality level is very presentable, indeed. The car is finished with durable enamel and it appears as if most/all of the rim was removed at the time that the Jaguar was refinished. Clearly, much of the exterior trim was replaced and is in very good condition. There is no over spray on any of the exterior trim, or chrome bits. The paint is laid very flat, extremely high luster, and free from any peeling, but does have a few touched up (minor) chips, and/or scratches. There are no serious door dings, dents or damage. The exterior of the car is beautiful, and any minor flaws are so small that they in no way detract from the overall beauty & appearance of the Jaguar XKE.

The panels on the Jaguar XKE fit very well, unlike many of the XKE's that we have seen over the years. The seams on the bonnet line up very well and are not separated, or rusted. The doors align well. The trunk fits well but a portion is slightly raised as if something too large was placed in the trunk at some point in time. This is not significant and does not affect the opening, locking or sealing. The bonnet (hood) latches on both sides and the safety latch in the middle of the bonnet is positioned correctly, and functional.

An undercarriage inspection of the XKE reveals that considerable work has been performed on the car. Many of the rear end bolts & braking components have been recently replaced, the stainless exhaust system is relatively new, and the clutch slave cylinder is fresh. The underside has been undercoated and there is an indication that, at some point, that the drivers side floor pan/rocker panel was repaired. It is, however, solid at this time and the floor pans have been repaired. At this time however, they are solid and there are no signs of damage or rust through in these areas. This particular jaguar XKE should, however, be viewed as a very attractive "driver", not a show level example of a Jaguar XKE. As such, the usual wear and tear found on a vehicle that is over 35 years exist.

The "bright work" is also in excellent condition, straight and free from pitting and significant damage. The chrome pieces have a lovely brilliance, and are free from any major damage, or signs of wear. The chrome trim around the doors, bumpers, side view mirrors, tail light housings, headlight trim, and other chrome pieces are free from any pitting, significant scratching, or damage.

The rubber trim is equally as good with some trim (as needed) being replaced at the time of the re-paint. The detailed photographs provide an accurate idea of the high quality of both the trim and paint/body condition. This is truly a lovely example, and its condition is reflects the care that the car was given by most recent long-term owner. While the car is not in the show car category, it will make an absolutely great "weekend use" XKE and is certain to draw attention wherever you go!! In fact, we plan on allowing extra time when we take the car just to answer questions about the XKE, its history and this particular car.

INTERIOR
The interior on the Jaguar is in absolutely outstanding condition. The entire interior has been replaced/refurbished utilizing the highest quality material and workmanship. This includes, but is not limited to the seats, door panels, dash, carpeting and other areas. When the interior was re-done, new foam was installed in the seats and all of the components were professionally installed. The seats have been recovered in leather and other original leather panels were also finished in leather. The seats are in like new condition with absolutely no signs of wear, tears, or damage. The seat backs are not broken, as is true with so many E Type Jaguars that we have seen over the years. The entire interior has the appearance of a vehicle that is only several years old, not that of a collectible vehicle that is approaching 35 years of age. It is simply striking.
The interior of the Jaguar remains virtually 100% stock with only one minor change. The change involves the addition of an upgraded Panasonic AM/FM CD radio. No additional speakers have been added to the Jaguar, so the radio plays though the stock XKE speakers in the console. An original, period radio could easily be added as no alterations were made to the console to adapt the new radio. Personally, we enjoy listening to the incredible exhaust note of the Jaguar over the radio music, but for those who are looking for a much improved radio system, this car now has one.

The dash is 100% original and in excellent condition. The dash is totally free from any cracks, wear or problems. The gauges are all original and functional, and the lenses are clear, not cracked, or damaged. The reading on the odometer is 87,373 miles the work that has been performed over the course of the last several years documents the mileage. Clearly, this car has been used on an extremely limited basis, over the years.

The seat belts, both front and rear, are original style, but have been replaced with new items. They still have the original Jaguar clasps/fasteners along with the Jaguar logos on the clasps. They are totally free from fraying or damage.

The interior lights come on when the doors are opened. The windows roll up freely and there is no broken or scratched glass. The doors fit and seal very well.

The other interior trim on the vehicle is also excellent and all of the door latches and locks are fully functional. Even items like the rear view mirror, side view mirror, turn signal stalk, headlight stalk, etc. are original and in excellent condition. All of the interior chrome and trim is in excellent condition.

MECHANICAL CONDITION
This Jaguar has been fanatically well cared for by a local jaguar mechanic. In fact, during the past 5~ years, the car has received extremely well maintained, and it has received everything that it has needed to keep it in the best possible condition. This XKE has the original 4.2-liter engine with the 4 speed manual transmission. The early E Type Jaguar cars had very impressive performance statistics, including the published top speed of in excess of 150 MPH.

This XKE performs very well, shifts smoothly and does not exhibit any drivability problems. The transmission and clutch are extremely strong and the majority of the other components have been rebuilt. While the repair/maintenance file is extensive, the following represents a summary of repair items/dates and will provide the prospective buyer with a feel for care that the Jaguar has received over the years. As important as the specific items being repaired, we believe that any lengthy repair/maintenance history documents the owner's interest in ensuring that the car is never neglected, or in a state of disrepair.
