ASKING PRICE $85,000
1971 Jaguar E-Type (XKE) 4.2, SERIES II. The car is willow green with 89,500 miles. The car currently resides in Michigan, but spent most of it's rust free life in SoCal. My buddy and I purchase it from the original owner approximately 17 years ago. She drove the car from Fullerton to Palm Springs, and has original A/C which is not working at this time. The car is almost all original except for a respray about 20 years ago. Selling because it doesn't get used much, and it's too pretty to leave under a cover in the garage. This is a driver, not a show car, but is really clean. There are a couple minor blemishes, which i will try and show in the pics. Great things about the car are as follows; Paint, chrome, car recently sorted with some repairs done, carbs rebuilt, Linkage redone with new choke cable, new heater hose, new electric fan wiring. Car drives smooth and straight. Brakes good, as well as gear box and clutch. Tires are a little over sized, 205 Michellins that look like new, despite being 16 years old. Radiator flushed, new plugs and oil. All original interior looks good. Trunk has all the factory tools. Lots of paperwork including original service log book. I put on K &N airfilters, original comes with car. Lights all work property as does wipers. NEGATIVES; Paint near gas fill is a little foggy, side view mirror was knocked off, by me walking by. It's a casting that can either be repaired, or a new one installed. Cold start up she smokes a little until warm, but that's pretty normal for a car that hasn't run much for years. Speedo cable is bouncy, radio lights up with no sound. The bottom line is this car sat a long time, before I got it up and running again. Only driven a few hundred miles in the last 13 years. This car needs to be driven more. It's not a show car, like many on Hemmings, but it's a great original driver in very nice shape.

Lot #153797

This 1971 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster is said to have remained with its original owner in southern California until 2008, at which time it was acquired by the seller, and it now shows 90k miles. The car was repainted in its original shade of Willow Green approximately 20 years ago, and it is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It is also equipped with light tan leather upholstery, a tan soft top, a louvered clamshell hood, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This XKE roadster is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Willow Green and was repainted approximately 20 years ago. Exterior equipment includes a tan soft top, wraparound chrome bumpers, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets. The left mirror was knocked off and has not been repaired, though the mirror is included, and there is a paint blemish near the fuel filler cover and a ding on the hood.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin tires that were mounted in 2016. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in light tan leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. The radio and air conditioning system do not work.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 90k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 245 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller states the carburetors have been rebuilt, hoses were replaced along with the spark plugs choke cable, and battery, and the oil was changed and coolant was flushed.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Spare and removed parts are included in the sale along with literature.

The car’s 2R13653 VIN sequence is prepended by “J71” on the current title.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
