Sold at H&H Classic Auctions,Pavillion Gardens,Buxton 8th June 2005 Estimate £25000-£28000 hammer price £23000. Reg # SVN854K Engine # 7S9598SA year 1972
Description:

During the mid-1990s, the entrant tells us that a brand new and complete right-hand drive roadster bodyshell was employed to convert what was described as being a left-hand drive fixed head manual fixed head coupe donor car from the USA into today's stunning E-Type. We understand that the considerable amount of work involved in achieving this transformation was professionally undertaken by a firm of Nuneaton-based classic Jaguar specialist engineers and marque experts, who have ceased trading. However, the final build cost for the car is reported to have amounted to ú70,000. Despite the `BW' suffix to the chassis number indicating that the vehicle concerned would have had automatic transmission originally, today this car is fitted with the far more desirable four-speed manual gearbox, which, along with the rest of the running gear, is claimed by the vendor to be in exceptional order. Bodywork, paintwork, chrome and interior are also reportedly still in show condition following the rebuild. SVN 854K has only just been successfully MOT tested and the latest certificate will be valid until near the end of April of next year.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
