This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 is a non-running project that was acquired by the seller’s father approximately 31 years ago and subsequently fitted with a Chevrolet inline-six and a replacement Borg-Warner automatic transmission. The car is finished in green over a black interior, and additional equipment includes 15″ wire-spoke wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, ANSA exhaust finishers, chrome bumpers, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. The sale includes the removed V12 engine and transmission as well as a collection of spare parts. This XKE 2+2 project is now offered with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, a 1972 sales invoice, manufacturer’s literature, and a transferable New York State registration document in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in silver, and the seller states that the body was refinished in green under previous ownership. The front-hinged hood features louvered vents, and additional exterior features include a left-side mirror, ANSA exhaust finishers, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Noted flaws include peeling and chipped paint, corroded trim, and dry-rotted weatherstripping.
Knock-off 15″ wire-spoke wheels show corrosion and are mounted with 195/70 Michelin XWX tires. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black upholstery in addition to color-coordinated dash, door panels, and carpets. A Jaguar-branded AM/FM cassette stereo was installed under current ownership. Wear is visible on the seats, floors, and center console.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer as well as centrally mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 44k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
A Chevrolet inline-six and replacement BorgWarner automatic transmission are said to have been installed under previous ownership. The engine does not run.
Corrosion is visible on the underbody components.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date of April 22, 1972, and lists the factory colors and identification numbers as well as distribution through British Leyland of New York.
The removed 5.3L V12 and BorgWarner three-speed automatic transmission are included in the sale.
A pair of spare 15″ wire wheels will also accompany the car along with a collection of spare parts, manufacturer’s literature, and a 1972 sales invoice.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its New York registration.
