This 1972 Jaguar E-Type is a series III 2+2 coupe finished in light blue over biscuit tan leather and powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include 15″ wire-spoke wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, independent suspension, air conditioning, Smiths gauges, a burled walnut dashboard face, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. The car was acquired by the seller in March 2018, and subsequent work consisted of retrimming the interior using material sourced from BAS Jaguar Limited, installing interior soundproofing and an air conditioning system, rebuilding the brakes and front steering components, and replacing the radiator, expansion tank, starter, and steering wheel. This XKE 2+2 is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The body is finished in light blue and is said to have been repainted. Features include chrome trim on the bumpers, window surrounds, and light surrounds as well as bumper overriders, a louvered clamshell hood, quad exhaust outlets, pop-out rear windows, and a driver-side mirror.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels wear Michelin tires. Factory equipment includes independent suspension, power steering, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. A spare wheel is stored in the rear compartment. The seller states that the front steering components and front brake calipers were rebuilt under current ownership.
The interior was retrimmed using biscuit tan leather on the seat covers, door panels, and center console with material sourced from BAS Jaguar Limited. A replacement headliner, sun visors, and carpets were installed at that time, and additional equipment includes air conditioning, a burled walnut dashboard face, seat heaters up front, and a console-mounted gear selector. The seller states that Koolmat and felt soundproofing were installed during the time the interior was refurbished.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel was reportedly installed under current ownership and fronts Smiths instrumentation with chrome surrounds including a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. An analog clock is mounted in the center stack along with additional Smiths gauges displaying battery voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows under 33k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller.
The aluminum 5.3-liter SOHC V12 is equipped with quad Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 314 horsepower. Work completed under current ownership reportedly consisted of installing an XK Unlimited air conditioning kit and an aluminum radiator assisted by Spal fans along with replacing the starter, serpentine belts, and coolant hoses.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.
The California title displays a VIN of 1S72853BW, omitting the prefix “UC” included in the chassis number.
