Sellers comment:
1971 E-Type (XKE) V12 Convertible with 4-speed manual transmission. (39.000 miles)

Car started out life as a Fixed Head Coupe 2+2 painted ‘Old English White’. The original owner carefully stored car, covered, for over ten years in his garage. Since coming out of storage, car’s second owner converted and painted it deep ‘Dark Blue’. He also replaced the top.

I purchased the car in 2000 with 37,000 miles and have continued with light but regular driving. Recent improvements include: new belts, bonnet, modern A/C compressor, clutch, cooling fan, brake cylinder and servo assembly and brake master cylinder.

All work was done to detailed specs by North Carolina Jaguar specialist Flying Circus English Cars. I have extensive maintenance records.

Original wire wheels and wire wheel spare are in excellent condition. The clock works. Original radio has been replaced with modern sound system by Pioneer. New system has removable faceplate with tape deck and CD changer in a trunk.

The top is excellent quality, installed by the second owner. Five Michelin tires (included spare) were fitted to replace original.

Vehicle Condition
The car is in very good condition. All the chrome is in good condition. Paint is in generally good to very good condition with some slight cracking on rear panel. The photos show the paint/body looks very good overall. There is no visible rust and no rust repairs have been done. The car has been kept in a garage.

Seating leather shows some age, there are a few cracks, fading and wear spots. The other upholstery is in good condition, the floor mats carry the Jaguar symbol and they look new. The gages all work. The trunk is clean. The metal floor under fuel tank and spare is in fine shape. The wire wheels are original and are in very good shape.

This car has been maintained to be a regular driver, is very fast. This beauty of a car performs wonderfully and turns heads everywhere I go. I have to sell this car to free garage space for larger vehicle - my wife just gave birth to twins.

Sellers description:
This car is a very nice driver. Read carefully! This car is a converted 2+2!! I have had the car over a year now, and have completed every expensive mechanical that repair it needed. I don't have the full history on the car, but the previous owner had it over 5 years. He stated that he had bought it from the previous owners estate. The fellow I bought it from had spent a lot of $$ on things like complete brake system, new canvas top, conversion of a/c to r-134a, ect. When I bought it, he had expanded his family and the XKE is for two people. He claimed that it sat far more than he drove it. I could bore you with all that I have done to the car, but to make a long story short, I have made the car very road worthy and it is very dependable. I would not hesitate to drive the car anywhere. The A/C blows cold, everything works with exception of the interior lights. Even the clock keeps good time. It is one of the early conversions done in the early eighties with steel panels. I bought this car with intentions of keeping it but am now looking to put the money I have in it in a new business, hence the "buy it now" price. The car is exceptionally rust free with only one place being affected by time and water and that is in the bottom of the spare wheel well. As you can see from the picture of the top of the quarter behind the top, the paint has cracked on both sides. This appears that the conversion was done using filler rather than lead and the paint has cracked. It is a steel panel conversion though. Also, as you can see, the seats and armrest are begging for renewal. I have ordered new rear shocks and rear springs for the car and they will go with the sale.

The previous owner had stated that the car was originally "Old English White". I really have no idea why he stated this. This car is and was from new, dark blue. No paint work ever under bonnet or trunk area and it is blue everywhere. I don't know where he even came up with the idea it was ever white. I am the owner now and am selling it to finance a new business. It is a good XKE and a good driver.

It is now 5/18/07, and I still have the car. I love it too much to part with it.

Rebuilt the engine this year after thinking I had dropped a valve seat. Engine did not need a rebuild, but due to having it out, figured I would anyway. It had a cracked valve seat instead of a dropped valve seat. Did valve job with all new exhaust valves, new teflon seals per Kirby Palms book. New main and rod bearings, and used Total Seal rings on original pistons. Installed new timing chain tensioner, and new timing chain. Advanced the cams by 6 degrees. Installed new aluminum flywheel, Tremec 5 speed, and new chrome headers. Rebuilt the strombergs.

Had paint repaired on rear of car. Had cracks in the bondo that appeared unsightly when looked at close up. There wasn't much filler in the panel between the trunk and the top, but the shop said that it appeared that the filler was just old, and had cracked, and that the new filler should last many years. He did state that the conversion appeared welded very well.

Sellers description:
If you are looking for that concours car to store in a garage, move on, because this car is a conversion done in the eighties when E-Types where bringing over 100K. My father was in the car business most of my life, and I remember being at a auction in Atlanta, and watching a V12 XKE bring almost 100K at a dealers only auction.

I bought this car about 8-10 years ago believing that this was the only way I would ever be able to afford a V12 Jag roadster. I bought it on eBay, out of Cary NC. It was advertised as a 2+2 conversion. In the several years I have owned this car, I have put a tad over 10K miles on it. I have spent, doing ALL of the labor myself, well over 25K on it doing improvements that couldn't hurt the car in any way due to it being a 2+2 conversion. I thought the car dropped a valve seat about 4 years ago, and stopped driving it for a couple of years working up the nerve to tackle the V12, as I love to do all of my own work. A couple of years ago, I did just that. While I had the engine out, I also installed a Tremec 5 speed, aluminum flywheel, polished stainless headers, rebuilt the carbs, installed a Ron Davis aluminum radiator, aluminum expansion tank, silicone hoses, Total seal rings, all new exhaust valves, and teflon seals. I put all new bearings, with the exception of the thrust bearing because the new one allowed more end play in the crank than the original one. This engine did not need a rebuild!! But, since I removed the engine to take the heads off, to fix what I thought was a dropped valve seat, and bought everything to do a total rebuild, I just went ahead. What I found was a cracked valve seat. My machinist felt that it cracked when Jaguar installed it, and it just took many years before "cocking" in the head, causing excessive valve clearance, leading me to believe that it dropped a valve seat. While he had the heads apart, due to Jaguar never installing valve seals on the exhaust side, the exhaust valves all had wear that he felt would be better if not there. So, all new exhaust valves. I also installed a gear reduction starter. On top of that, I installed Bob Beeres remote oil cooler.I completely disassembled the fan housing, painted and detailed when I replaced the radiator.

The clock works, but loses about 10 minutes a week. The car never, and I mean NEVER has ran hot while I have owned it, and the aluminum radiator insures that to not incur. It got up to 100 last summer, and while running the air, in traffic, the needle stayed on NORMAL on the gauge.

I have just finished putting all new interior in the car. While I was at it, I lined the entire inside with the interior out, with the Thermo Tec liner. And now, I have actually turned the heat on while driving it in the evenings. This past winter, I took the rear suspension out, stripped it completely, repainted everything, installed all new bushings, mounts, rebuilt the calipers, and installed drilled and slotted rotors. I also installed the Alden Eagle adjustable aluminum rear shocks. All of this was part of my ongoing effort to make this car to be the absolute best driver it can be.

I have installed the Crane XR3000 ignition system, (7 years ago), with the Crane PS 90 12 volt coil, to make sure the car never had a ignition miss. And it doesn't.

I have purchased, but not installed, front drilled and slotted rotors, wildwwod calipers, front Alden Eagle adjustable aluminum shocks, bigger NEW torsion bars, bigger sway bar, and all poly bushings for the front. I have already installed braided brake lines. (The one on the rear too) If the car brings what I hope it does, I will include these with the sale.

I have just put new tires on the car. They don't have 1500 miles on them I bet. I also bought and installed the aluminum knock off wheels as sold by Performance ? out of Austrailia (I think?) They were new from a distributor on eBay. I also bought the 2 eared SS spinners. I have the original wire wheels, and knock offs. The car has the jack, with the correct bag in the trunk. I have a cover for the top. I also have a California car cover that goes with the car.

The paint is beautiful. Not perfect, but looks real good no matter how close you get. It is a driver, but I assure you, you cannot go anywhere without attracting the stares, the thumbs up, and positive comments about this car. E types are just simply beautiful. The AC blows cold, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. I even installed 2 fuel pumps running simultaneously, with dual fuel filters, as to not ever have a fuel pump leave me stranded. I have the original pump as well. I also have, and will include all of the original exhaust manifolds and a.i.r. system.

I also found a NOS Ansa exhaust system on eBay, and installed it when I did the engine work. Recently went to the XKEperience in Virginia, and was told by several of the folks there that I without a doubt had the best sounding Jag there. I will also include the exhaust system that was on the car prior, which has the distinctive 4 outlet fantail tip.

If you are still reading, you are wondering why I am selling this car. Well, I feel that it may be one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made. Yet, I am a 50 year old car nut. I have had so many cars, its hard to remember them all. I have had this car almost as long as any car. I have never had a car that draws anywhere near the adoration this car seems to. But I want a new toy. A hot rod. I already have the hot rod project, as well as 3 other cars, so I doubt very seriously that trades will be considered.

The bad? This car runs rich. I have rebuilt the Strombergs, readjusted the floats twice, leaned them as far as they go, and it still runs rich. Runs great, but rich. I have been told recently by someone in one of my clubs that maybe I need new needles and jets. I really don't know. EFI is on my wish list if this car doesn't sell. I have a XJS donor car I may would throw in if you are interested There also is a small pinched place on the top, but I have a new canvas black top that I will include uninstalled. And lastly, the ONLY rust this car has, and has had since I have had it, is in the trunck floor where it appears that water was allowed to stand too long. I keep the car inside, so that has never been a problem, nor have a bothered repairing it. I have pics. The rockers, the floors, the frame rails, everything, is beautifully original and rust free/damage free. I welcome any kind of inspection to insure you of the rust free nature of this car. Every bolt I have turned came off with no problem. I only used penetrating oil on the trailing arm mounts when removing the rear suspension.

The car is on XKEdata .com
