Christies Los Angeles auction, June 2000. Western Driver report reads:

Gray blue/black leather. LHD. Odo: 82,852 miles. 4-speed manual. Bucket seats. Discs. Extremely original car. Paint pimpling, rust bubble on passenger’s front fender, chrome pitted and worn. Decent interior. Very straight. Looks like it has been used but not abused. SOLD AT $8,813.

Western driver comment: If the mechanicals are decent and the car needs only a general tune, this was a decent buy. However, the V12 engine on these fat cats can suck up $5K faster than you can spell “Coventry.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
