Car listed as sold at:
www.vintagemotorcarsusa.com/vehicles/details_new.php

Sellers description:
Restored several years ago, this 100% rust-free E-Type is a wonderful specimen that can be driven and enjoyed at will and still looks great when you take it to local shows. Old English White is the car's original hue and looks quite dashing on the long, sleek bodywork. Correctly finished, it has a soft shine that's appropriate to the vintage and has aged to perfection so it looks fantastic but you don't have to worry about rain or bugs when you're out on the open road with that sonorous V12. It shows no signs of ever being wrecked, as the hood fits snugly and the bumpers are flush with the bodywork. Chrome is quite good, with a bright shine on the bumpers and trim and excellent stainless around the windows. The only possible demerit is that the leg of the "G" in "JAGUAR" on the rear deck lid has broken off, but replacements are easy to source.

The aromatic black leather interior shows a wonderful mix of original and new componentry. The front buckets have newer seat covers that have only just started to break in, making them all-day comfortable and using patterns that match the originals exactly. The fold-down rear seat appears to be original and in remarkably good shape for being 42 years old and it's important to note that the camera's flash tends to magnify creases in black leather--it actually looks far better in person than in photos. The carpets are quite likely original, as are the door panels and dash, all of which show age-appropriate wear but no issues, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel feels fantastic in your hands. All the Smiths instruments are fully functional, showing bright markings and clear lenses. One of the E-Type's most distinctive features, the row of rocker switches on the center stack, remains intact and with all switches operational. There is no radio, although there was one in the past, but a tidy block-off plate is in place to give the dash a finished look, and with speakers, wiring, and a power antenna already in place, an upgraded head unit will be easy to install. The A/C was serviced just last year, with a conversion to R134a refrigerant, so it's ready to enjoy immediately.

The engine was rebuilt in the mid-1990s and runs as a V12 Jaguar should with no leaks or burning oil. It starts easily with a fantastic zinging exhaust note that's typical of the big cat. It settles into an easy idle and pulls strong out on the open road thanks to a quartet of side-draft Strombergs. It's neatly detailed and very clean, indicating careful maintenance and a first-rate rebuild when the work was done, and the steering, brakes, and Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic gearbox have all been rebuilt by the pros at Leland Motors in Canton, Ohio. A glance under the car will reveal zero rust issues, which is critical for vintage Jaguars, which have a habit of rusting in the most demonic ways possible, and a rather recent stainless steel exhaust system adds a fantastic soundtrack and correct 4-tube outlet. Four chrome wire wheels add the right amount of British distinction and wear recent 215/70/15 Dunlop whitewall radials for an original look.

Formerly owned and restored by the Jaguar Club president, this car was the 2008 poster vehicle for the Ursline Concours d'Elegance and took first place in its class that year, which speaks highly of its quality and preservation. A very nicely presented E-Type with none of the usual issues, this lovely 2+2 can safely be considered a smart investment that will bring a smile to your face every time you see it.

Auction description:

5.3-Liter V12

Three-Speed Automatic Transmission

Limited-Slip Differential

White Paint

Black Leather Upholstery

15" Knock-Off Wire Wheels

Air Conditioning

Retro-Style Stereo

Stainless-Steel Exhaust

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #147371

This 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 was acquired by the current owner in 2018, and subsequent work involved refinishing the car in white and fitting the 5.3-liter V12 with replacement Zenith-Stromberg carburetors as well as replacing components for the braking, power steering, and suspension systems. Shifting is through a three-speed automatic transmission, and the car also has a limited-slip differential, 15″ wire wheels, a stainless-steel exhaust system, air conditioning, black leather upholstery, and a retro-style stereo. The car is said to have been originally owned by the president of the Jaguar Club of Ohio. This Series III E-Type is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with partial service records and a clean Florida title in the name of the owner’s LLC.

The body has been refinished in white, and work since 2022 has included repairing and painting the hood as well as repairing the right fender and the front bumper. Equipment includes dual side mirrors, bright trim, a forward-hinged louvered hood, and quad exhaust outlets.

Wire-spoke 15″ wheels are secured by three-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 215/70 Dunlop SP60 tires. A power steering hose was replaced in 2021, and work in 2019 involved replacing the control arm bushings, shocks, brake master cylinder, and rotors in addition to rebuilding the brake calipers.

The 2+2 cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. A retro-style radio and replacement speakers are installed. The air conditioning compressor, dryer, and resistor were replaced in 2019, and the system was recharged in 2021.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer, while an analog clock and auxiliary readouts are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 97k miles, approximately 1,300 of which were added under current ownership.

The 5.3-liter V12 was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new, and the seller states that it was rebuilt under previous ownership in 1990. The quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors were replaced in 2021 with remanufactured units, and the spark plugs, battery, and fuel filter were also replaced at that time. The engine mounts were replaced in 2019. A stainless-steel exhaust system with a revised muffler is installed.

Engine block stamping 7S3053-SA matches that shown on the firewall serial number tag.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The differential was serviced in 2019.

Manufacturer’s literature, magazines, and workshop manuals are included in the sale. Also included are promotional posters from a concours event in the 2000s featuring the car.

The current Florida title is a duplicate.
