Story

The changes were aesthetic as well as mechanical (wider track), but it was the introduction of the 5.3-litre V12 engine that was specific on this series. The large engine is accompanied by a larger radiator grille. The block was very modern for its time, breaking with the classic 'long stroke' and cast iron block of the six-cylinder engines. Well maintained, it is more reliable. The smoothness of the engine compared to the six-cylinder engine is surprisingly good and the acceleration is very powerful.

The 3 Series was based exclusively on the longer wheelbase 2+2 version as the automatic transmission was also available on both roadster and coupe 2+2 versions. The long chassis and weight gain, although the V12 was no heavier than the XK engine, gives a more civilized but still sporty character depending on the drive, especially with the rare mechanical gearbox versions, which are sought after for this.

This is a really nice exemplar to own and drive.
