Private Party or Dealer: Dealer

This 1971 Jaguar E-Type is a 2+2 model that was purchased new from British Motor Car Distributors, Inc. of Portland, Oregon and is said to have remained with its original owner for 28 years. The car was subsequently part of a private collection until 2010, when it was acquired by a client of the selling dealer. Power is provided by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and mechanical work in 2010 and 2011 included replacement of the ignition components, radiator overflow tank, cooling system hoses, and more. This E-Type is offered by the selling dealer with early registration documents and service records, manufacturer’s literature, a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Oregon title.

The seller commissioned a repaint in the original silver due to oxidation in the original paint. Trim includes factory slim chrome bumpers and US-market lighting with sealed-beam lamps and side markers.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are mounted with earless knock-off nuts and wear 205/75 Hankook Optimo H724 tires. The 2+2 featured an extended roofline to clear its extra rear seats when compared to the standard coupe.

The four-seat cabin is upholstered in black leather and equipped with a period AM/FM radio as well as an inoperative air conditioning system. A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer, while gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are located above late-model rocker switches in the center of the dash. Approximately 40k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer.

The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 272 horsepower. Work following the previous owner’s acquisition in 2010 included installation of new ignition components, coolant and fuel hoses, and belts. The selling dealer has serviced the fuel system and brakes, replaced the battery, and performed an oil change.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission, and the car retains a quad-pipe exhaust system.

The Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows the original build date, colors, and drivetrain numbers. Manufacturer’s literature is shown in the gallery along with a selection of early registration documents and service records.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
