Description from above auction:
Lot #1902
Winning Bid USD $56,000
Location: Bowling Green, Ohio
Chassis: UC1S20890
41k Miles
Pale Primrose over Black
One Repaint
Largely Original Car
$12K Service in 2012
Service/Inspection in July 2016

This 1972 Jaguar XKE V12 Series III Roadster has just 41k miles and is finished in Pale Primrose over black. This is a largely original example with one known repaint, a reupholstered vinyl interior, and a newer convertible top. This car was with the same owner from 1982-2012, and over $12k of maintenance has been performed since. Work included rebuilt carburetors, a rebuilt steering rack, suspension work, new rear brakes, a new starter, fluid flushes, and more as detailed below. A complete inspection and service was performed in July 2016 and the car is now said to be in good mechanical order. It is located in Ohio and is offered with some service records and a clean Arizona title.

The Pale Primrose paint shows well from 10 feet, and has had one repaint in the original color according to the seller. A July 2016 inspection was performed by the seller, Snook's Dream Cars in Bowling Green, Ohio. The replacement Stayfast convertible top fits well, but the hood envelope is missing its rear snaps. Close inspection reveals several small door dings, some light paint cracking, orange peel, scratches, and various stone chips commensurate with age. Some road rash is present on the door sills. Glass is said to be good overall condition with a few small stone chips in the windshield and a chip in the top edge of the passenger window. An aftermarket power antenna has been fitted and does not work. Panel fitment looks good and with light filler on the rear quarter panels below the leading edge of the bumper. The remainder of the car is said to be filler-free, though a dent underneath one bumper is noted. Bumpers, trim, and other brightwork look to be in decent condition with age-related wear.

According to the seller, this XKE was optioned from the factory with chrome wire wheels, headrests and a luggage rack, all of which remain on the car. The 72-spoke knockoff wire wheels have some wear from use and are wrapped in 18 year-old tires with good tread remaining. A spare tire, jack, and toolkit are included with the sale.

This XKE has been reupholstered with black vinyl showing well in photos. Carpeting appears clean throughout, with some wear in the driver's footwell. New carpeted floor mats were recently fitted. A taped-up split in the passenger-side sun visor cover is noted.

The dashboard is said to be in good condition, and all instrumentation is reportedly in working order. Trim and switchgear appear clean and the factory steering wheel remains in place. The Becker Grand Prix AM/FM/Cassette stereo reportedly sounds good. All lights are said to be operational with the exception of the right backup light.

Overall, the interior presents well, though the passenger seat belt retractor is inoperable.

This XKE is powered by a 5.2L V12 and 4-speed transmission. In 2012, it received a $12k service including rebuilt carburetors, a power steering rack rebuild, cooling system work, front suspension repairs, front brake hoses replaced, new rear brakes, new clutch master/slave cylinder, new starter, fuel system flush, exhaust leak repair, new transmission mount, new trailing arm bushings, and an oil/filter service. After the service, the car mostly sat for a year before being brought to Snook's Dream Cars in July 2016. They cleaned the carburetor needles, repaired some wiring, and performed an oil/filter service. The engine is now said to run smooth and make good power. The brakes are noted to be in good shape and the gearbox reportedly shifts well with a light clutch feel.

Undercarriage reveal a largely corrosion-free car, likely due to the Tuff-Kote Dinol rustproofing. Several leaks are noted including a differential leak at the right axle seal, a transmission leak around the output seal, and an engine leak at the rear main seal. The seller states it leaves a few drops on the floor.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
