This 1972 Jaguar XKE is a Series III roadster refinished in Sable brown over beige leather and powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a tan soft top, quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension at all four corners, chrome knock-off wire wheels, and air conditioning. The car is said to have been acquired by the current owner from its first owner in 2014, after which it was relocated from Washington, DC to Florida and a cosmetic refurbishment was performed. Work completed in October 2020 included the installation of a refurbished alternator, new transmission linkage bushings, and an oil change. This XKE is now offered on dealer consignment with a service manual, receipts from recent repairs, the removed factory transmission, and a clean Florida title.

The car was built in August 1972 and was refinished during current ownership in its factory Sable brown, at which time a replacement tan soft top was also installed. Equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, US-market side markers, polished window surrounds, a decklid V12 badge, and quad exhaust outlets.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear 205/70 Primewell PS850 tires, and the car is equipped with four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes at all four corners.

The cabin was retrimmed with beige leather covering the seats and door panels along with matching replacement carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, a center console with an armrest, Coco floor mats, a chrome handbrake handle, and a locking glove box.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer, with gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows under 23k miles, with true mileage unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 is fitted with four side-draft Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and a single overhead camshaft per cylinder bank. A refurbished alternator was installed and an oil change performed in October 2020.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through an aftermarket five-speed manual transmission installed during current ownership. The shifter linkage bushings were replaced in October 2020. The removed factory transmission was retained and will be included in the sale.

A workshop manual, keys, and receipts for recent service are included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
