Car offered at:

www.postwarclassic.com/389649-jaguar-e-type-v12-5-3-litre-roadster

Seller's description:

Jaguar E-Type V12 5.3-litre Roadster

Condition Excellent, remarkably original Year Manufactured 1973 Year Registered1974 Chassis No. 1S 2026BW Mileage Displayed 32,101

It is a pleasure to have been commissioned to find a new home for this superbly presented, and remarkably original, Jaguar E-Type Series 3 after over 26 years in the same ownership and showing just over 32,000 miles on the clock!

This fine Jaguar was built in September 1973, supplied to Henley’s of Bournemouth and sold by Patrick Motors on 1 August 1974. Patrick Motors bought the car back two years later to add to their collection where it remained for many years. It is currently in private ownership and is thought to be one of the most original surviving examples of the E-Type series 3 having never been restored; just meticulously preserved and cared for during its 49 years.

That is not to say that it hasn’t been enjoyed! It has just over 32,000 miles on the clock and is enjoyed to this day by the present owner who has driven it regularly over the past 26 years. Since purchasing in 1994, the present owner has been especially diligent in maintaining the excellent track record of this historically significant Jaguar. Every job, no matter how small, has been recorded in a diary accompanying the car. All the MOT certificates are present through its entire life except one (the year it became exempt, but this decision was reversed, and the owner resumed testing the following year). The current MOT is set to expire in September 2022.

Fitted with an optional automatic gearbox and the famous 5.3 litre V12, as designed and launched by Harry Mundy and Walter Hassan in March 1971. This model of E-Type represented superb value for money in its day, boasting some remarkable statistics for the early 1970s… costing the original owner only £3,937, this Jaguar was capable of achieving 146mph. It could reach a staggering 120mph in only 26.5 seconds and, 49 years later, still starts perfectly and drives like a dream.

The only necessary alteration noted is the discreet drilling of access holes under the sills to coats the appropriate material with waxoyl, giving the car long term protection from any age-related damage or corrosion; this has been done with care taken and discreetly. The chrome is excellent all around with the original wheels in superb order. Incidentally, the wheels have recently been fitted with replacement tyres to the correct specification. The paintwork is stunning with no damage or issues in the original paint.

The battery is isolated and kept on a trickle charger after every use making it reliable to start. The speedo is accurately showing 32,101 at point of advertising (we expect this to rise slightly but not significantly). The clocks and dash all work entirely as expected with the small exception of the speedo trip reset being intermittent at times. The dash truly is impressive with an array of switches; take time to study our photo of that area as it is well thought-out.

As would be expected on such a pedigree car, the numbers all match and are supported by a heritage certificate. It is described as being Signal Red with a Black Leather interior. It is a Roadster open RHD from new with no notable modifications having been made. A real collectors’ piece which is a true time-warp to the 1970s!

The hood is original with the original rear window. The leather interior is in good order with no obvious defects and as good as can be expected. The one thing that sets this remarkable time capsule aside from its restored counterparts is the accuracy of the door shuts all around and the fit of all the panels.

Overall, what a superb car and a pleasure to be able to offer for sale. Please contact us at Berrybrook Steam & Classics to organise a viewing near us in Exeter. Prior notice will be needed to organise a viewing as the car is currently being kept at the owner’s private address.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
