Additional info from the above auction from:

SOLD AT $18,540. One of those cars that got better the more you looked at it. Never really worn out badly enough to need restoration, completely intact, and seemed to run well. Went to a Russian wholesaler who vowed he wouldn’t pay more than $15K for it.” Still cheap.

Car to be at auction 11/13
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2013-11-30/car/1973-jaguar-e-type-series-iii ...

Auction description:
284 - 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster
Registration VEF303M
Chassis Number 152022BW
Engine Number 7S12695SB
Odometer reading 66,000 miles
Estimate £48,000 - £54,000

This is an original righthand drive UK car, first registered on 21stSeptember 1973 to Sir Charles Forte of Trust House Forte Hotel Group. Having covered on 66,000 miles from new and supplied with a good history file, this automatic transmission Jaguar E-Type is presented in excellent condition throughout. The red coachwork was restored some three years ago and the biscuit interior was taken care of at the beginning of 2013, both of these have been carried out to a very high standard. Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until September 2014, this Jaguar also benefits from having had a recent service. Described by the vendor as driving "exceedingly well", this Series III E-Type looks to be outstanding value given the condition, estimate and the increasing interest these later, more civilised E-Types are attracting.

Auction description:
Silverstone Classic Sale
1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster
Lot No.: TBA
Registration: VEF 303M
Chassis Number: 152022BW
Engine Number: 7512695SB
Number of cylinders: V12
CC: 5343cc
Year of Manufacture: 1973
Estimate (£): 55,000 - 65,000
This original righthand drive UK car was first registered on 21st September 1973 to Sir Charles Forte of the Trust House Forte Hotel Group. The current mileage is just over 66,000 miles from new and there is a history file detailing recent expenditure. Presented in nice original order, the V12 engine pulls well and is mated to an automatic transmission. The paint was painted approximately 4 years ago and the biscuit leather interior was trimmed at the beginning of 2013 and remains in lovely condition.

This E-Type roadster has been driven by a Silverstone Auctions employee and we can report that the car starts, stops and steers as it should. Offered in a lovely colour combination, this car represents excellent value considering climbing prices of V12 roadsters.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
