Lot #26104
Wiltshire, United Kingdom
Under the bonnet is a 5.3-litre naturally aspirated V12, producing around 272bhp, and sending it to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
Noted to have been first purchased in 1973 by music producer Glyn Johns during the time of the production of the Eagles album ‘Desperado’, the car was later passed to Glyn’s son Ethan Johns, and spent most of its life in California.
The car was then re-imported into the UK in 2010, when it was restored by TT Workshops, who registered it to their company while the work was completed.
Once the restoration work was finished in 2017, the car was re-registered in Ethan Johns’ name.
Today, records show that the vehicle has had six UK-based registered keepers from new, and it has been with its most recent owner since October 2022.
The five-digit odometer shows 75,174 miles.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
Believed to have been originally finished in Lavender Blue over a Dark Blue interior, this E-Type has been repainted in a timeless black hue, and the interior has been retrimmed in Hotspur Red leather, with red Wilton carpet and a black dashboard.
As standard, the Series 3 came with uprated brakes and power steering, though this example has also been fitted with stainless-steel wire wheels, an aftermarket exhaust system, and uprated suspension.
It rides on a set of 15-inch wire-spoke wheels, shod in Pirelli Cinturato HSCN12 tyres.
Inside, the car features a three-spoke black leather-trimmed steering wheel, Smiths dials, an analogue Kienzle clock, and a more modern Alpine CD player head unit.
CONDITION
A letter from Ethan Johns states that the car was involved in a minor ‘bumper shunter’ in San Francisco, which required some bodywork repairs to be carried out, though there was no structural damage.
The vehicle is understood to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.
SERVICE HISTORY
This E-Type’s latest service was carried out in 2022 by The Manor Garage. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change and service, along with the fitment of stainless-steel spoke wheels, and uprated brakes.
As noted above, this E-Type underwent an extensive restoration upon its re-importation into the UK, which was carried out by TT Workshops between 2010 and 2017/
Records show that the car was upgraded to ‘racing standard’ during its early life, which included the fitment of an uprated exhaust and suspension components. It was also maintained by Canyon Speed Shop in Santa Monica Canyon while in the U.S.
