This Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster is a remarkably well-preserved example of the famously beautiful open-top British classic, offered with a single owner from new and extremely low mileage.
Under the sweeping bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 5.3-litre V12, producing around 272bhp, driven through the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
The odometer shows just 16,392 miles from new, which is supported by a fastidious early maintenance history.
Originally purchased in August 1972 from R.P. Powell Motors Limited, the car has been cherished by its one and only owner since new, and is accompanied by a number of historic photographs, as well as its hardtop roof, contained in its original box.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This E-Type Roadster is finished in its original hue of Old English White, with both a rare colour-coded hard-top and black vinyl convertible roof, over a black leather-trimmed interior, punctuated by silver and chrome trim accents.
It rides on an original set of 15-inch chromed wire wheels with two-spoke spinners, shod with Dunlop SP Sport tyres.
The factory specification includes a leather-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, variable speed electric windscreen wipers, Smiths gauges, a Kienzle analogue clock, dual heater and ventilation controls, and manually operated windows.
This E-Type Roadster now features an upgraded Blaupunkt stereo, a dashboard-mounted lamp, an ignition conversion kit, and a five-trumpet horn.
The car is accompanied by its original service passport, repair operation manual, period photographs, a full set of spare chromed wire wheels with Pirelli tyres, and the detachable hard-top roof with the original box.
CONDITION
The seller is not aware of any bodywork damage.
The original Old English White paintwork is reported to be in very good condition given the car’s age. There is slight deterioration on the rear hard-top roof rubbers, spots of discolouration on the hard-top headlining, a small imperfection on the offside edge of the front clam shell, and some small bubbles and cracks on the nearside rear wheel arch, which is all in line with the car’s age and limited use.
Stepping inside, the cabin is presented in great shape. There is a small blemish on the transmission tunnel trim under the handbrake lever and creasing on the seats, with a small scratch on the driver’s seat bolster, but no wear or discolouration.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights on the dashboard.
While it is now exempt from mandatory roadworthiness testing due to its age, the car’s last MOT test was conducted on 20 July 2016 at 16,195 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with one advisory for a lamp in the screen but not obstructing the driver’s view.
SERVICE HISTORY
This E-Type’s most recent maintenance was carried out in June 2003 at 15,131 miles by Barclay Jaguar Specialist, which consisted of an engine oil service.
Other notable maintenance includes the fitment of new headlights, and the engine and clutch being replaced under warranty in December 1972 at 6,327 miles.
