Lot #108792

This 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster is finished in Sable Brown over black leather upholstery and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, chrome bumpers with overriders, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, Smiths instrumentation, and a push-button AM/FM radio. This Series II XKE roadster was purchased new by the owner’s late father and is now offered on dealer consignment with manufacturer’s literature, hand-written service notes, a black boot cover, and a Florida title.

The car is finished in Sable Brown and features a black convertible top with a matching boot. Exterior details include a louvered hood, a left-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, a luggage rack, and dual polished exhaust outlets. Stone chips are visible on the front fascia.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured by knock-off spinners and mounted with thin whitewall tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.

The interior features black leather bucket seats with perforated inserts along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Rubber floor mats line the footwells, and appointments include a heater, a locking glove compartment, a wooden shift knob, and a push-button AM/FM stereo linked to speakers mounted on each side of the center stack. Wear is visible on both seat bolsters.

The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline. An analog clock as well as auxiliary gages for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 72k miles, approximately 40 of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and finned valve covers. An oil leak is noted by the selling dealer.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

Manufacturer’s literature and hand-written service notes are included in the sale.

The Florida title notes a Pennsylvania Classic Vehicle brand.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
