This 1969 Jaguar XKE is a Series II roadster that was acquired by the seller in 1995 and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Finished in red over black upholstery, the car is equipped with a black soft top and boot, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and Smiths instrumentation. Work performed under current ownership included repainting various exterior panels, refurbishing the interior, installing an electronic ignition system, and overhauling the brakes. This XKE roadster is now offered in Florida with removed factory parts, a replacement soft top, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.
The body was finished from the factory in Willow Green and was reportedly stripped and repainted in its current shade of red under previous ownership, at which time the exterior brightwork is said to have been refinished. Records and photos of the hood, fenders, and rocker panels being refinished in 2019 are presented in the photo gallery. The black soft top is shown and a matching replacement soft top and convertible top boot is included in the sale. The paint on the inside of the driver-side floor pan is deteriorating, and corrosion can be seen in the driver-side wheel well.
Stainless 15″ wire wheels are mounted with older 185-series radial Michelin XVS-P tires. Braking is accomplished by four-wheel discs. Work performed between 2017 and the present has included rebuilding the front calipers along with replacing the rear calipers and brake rotors as well as the brake and clutch master cylinders. A spare wheel and a jack reside in the trunk.
The cabin was trimmed from the factory in Beige and features seats, door panels, and carpets that were reupholstered in black using components sourced from the G.W. Bartlett Company. The interior and trunk lighting is inoperative, and the hazard lights only work on the driver’s side.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer. An analog clock and auxiliary gauges are located in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and is stamped with 7R3237-9, which matches the engine number indicated on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. An electronic ignition system with a Flame-Thrower ignition coil was fitted in April 2021. The fuel tank was replaced at that time, although an odor of gasoline emanating from the trunk area remains. A replacement aluminum radiator is said to have recently been installed, and the oil pan gasket, front and rear main seals, and spark plugs were recently replaced. An oil leak is present and corrosion is noted on the battery tray.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the transmission grinds when engaging second gear. The transmission fluid was recently replaced.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows factory colors and serial numbers along with a manufacture date of December 17, 1968.
The removed factory radiator is included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature and service records.
