Private Party or Dealer: Dealer

This 1969 Jaguar XKE is a Series II open two-seater that has reportedly been with the current owner for the past 10 years. The car is finished in silver over a black interior, and power is from a 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with three carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Service since 2018 is said to include a fuel tank inspection and replacement of the spark plugs, ignition coil and wires, ignition points and condenser, and distributor cap and rotor. This XKE is now offered on dealer consignment with service records, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Oregon title.

According to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, the car left the factory finished in Ascot Fawn. It was refinished in silver under previous ownership. Originally trimmed in beige, the interior is now upholstered in black. Features include a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a modern retro-style aftermarket stereo.

The 15″ wire wheels are mounted with wingless center lugs and wear Universal Sport redline tires. The soft top is stowed beneath a black boot cover.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 22k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple carburetors and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The intake manifold and valve covers were recently cleaned and polished, and an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans is fitted. Work in 2018 reportedly included replacing the spark plugs, ignition coil and wires, ignition points and condenser, and distributor cap and rotor.

The engine stamping 7R2024-9 depicted above matches the engine number listed on the data plate.

The selling dealer notes coolant and oil seepage.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists a build date of October 21, 1968, along with the original numbers and colors.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
