Sellers description:
This is a partially restored 1970 Jaguar XKE FHC Series 2 coupe. I simply don't have the time to complete the restoration and now have my heart set on a Series 1 2+2, so I'm selling this car. Many new parts have been installed and many existing parts have been restored. The object of the restoration was to retain the complete look of the Jaguar XKE, but add the reliability of an up to date car. I purchased the car a year ago for over $10,000 and have recently invested over $5000 in parts and professional labor, not counting my own labor. Given what I've put into the car (versus what I'll likely get out), someone who has some time to finish the restoration is going to get a really good deal and gain a beautiful car that is worth a lot of money.

I do not have a complete history of the car, but this is what was related to me by a jag dealer who sold me the car (some of which can be verified by looking at the car). The car was in California and then was purchased by the previous owner and moved to Miami, Florida. The car went through a complete restoration which included installation of a high performance Ford 302 V8 engine, Offenhauser 360 Manifold, and C4 automatic transmission. It was also fitted with a new air conditioning system, new wire wheels, new tires, sunroof, new exhaust, new suspension, new wiring system, new interior trim, new streering wheel, painted, and an extra aluminum radiator installed for extra cooling. The dealer indicated that the restoration effort ran about $25,000. I have no receipts from this previous restoration, nor firm dates when this occurred. Since the restoration, only 3k miles were put on the engine. I suspect that the car was garaged for sometime after the restoration and only driven occassionally, but I'm not sure. From looking at the car, I suspect the restoration was over a decade ago. The speedometer works and shows only 9546 miles but I doubt that this is correct.

When I acquired the car, the restoration was not complete and some things needed to be re-restored. A jag dealer fixed some rust spots under the car and also replaced the fuel pump, fuel lines, and filter. Then I had several more updates made under the hood. I had a brand new Holley Peformance Carburetor installaed, MSD Ignition system, distributor, plugs, spark plug wires, and the system tuned professionally. I also had the transmission removed and completely rebuilt (professionally). I also purchased a new carpet set for the car, foam padding, and heat shield material (not yet installed). In addition, I purchased and installed a new battery, steering wheel button, new seat belts, and chrome dress-up kit for the engine (the last two have not been installed). I also replaced the boards that cover the back of the coupe ..the plan was to install new hardura or carpet over the boards. I also purchased new rubber seals for the doors, hatch, and windows (most not installed). I also purchased a new stereo frame and front console piece for the stereo (but I did not purchase a new stereo). I removed the fan and vents for the aftermarket AC because they did not match the lines of the original. My intent was to purchase a more refined control and vent system from Vintage Air that would be more hidden and provide better AC output (hooking up to the existing modern AC compressor system on the 302 engine).

If I had kept the car, here is what I would do to complete the restoration: fix the striker plate on the driver door (screw is broke), install new controls and fan for the AC using a Vintage Air model (costs about $350+ depending on what model); install new muffler and dual chrome resonators (previous owner had a "non traditional", rather loud exhaust that was rusting...so it was removed...I had these parts already...but sold them in another parts auction); install interior carpet; fix some small body issues (when they transported the car the strap dented the bonnet slightly, some small rust spots underneath remain...most were already fixed), sand and repaint the car (some abraisions, scratches, and a few bubble spots); check the brakes (they work, but have not been checked out professionally, also the emergency brake needs fixed); go through the lights and replace bulbs and some frayed lines; and install new stereo.

As you can see from the pictures, the car looks pretty good. Although I recommend a paint job, it shows pretty well...you can even see the clouds reflecting off the car. The XKE is definitely the most attractive car ever made.
