Ebay item 2/7/13

Current bid $15,777.77 reserve not met, 23 bids 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
This E Type coupe came out of an estate sale in North Carolina and was purchased by me from "The Car Nut" who sells lots and lots of cars on Ebay. He has a spotless 100% positive record and I purchased this one three years or so ago. It is white with black leather interior, 4.2 6 cylinder engine, 4 speed fully synchronized gearbox, wire wheels and factory A/C. When I received the car I was very pleased as it was in much better condition than I had expected. The body is very straight and rust free. The bottom of the doors, which are typically a rust problem on these cars are in excellent condition. The paint is very nice for a driver. In person, the paint looks a little more creamy than in the photos. I think it is a very attractive shade of white. Please note that this is the more attractive two person coupe and not the bulkier 2+2.

Wire wheels are in excellent condition and so are the tires. The bumpers and other bright trim are very acceptable for a driver. Mechanically the engine is very strong with excellent oil pressure (almost 50 psi), even when warm. Cylinder compression of 165 psi per cylinder was checked by a hired shop before I purchased car. Not sure of engine is original to car and do not see any numbers on the head. The grooved valve covers have been replaced with two, highly polished smooth valve covers. I also replaced the original exhaust manifolds with chromed ones along with polished carburetor domes and front air breather assembly. These changes make the engine bay look very attractive. I still have the original parts that I replaced in case you want to switch back. Engine runs smooth and quiet. Starts first time every time with the choke pulled out. I normally let it warm up for about three or four minutes before I take off.

All gauges work except the clock. The car came with rare factory AC and I have since replaced the bulky York style compressor with a new aftermarket unit that is chrome plated. Works just fine. While I was at it, I purchased a freshly rebuilt inside evaporator unit (extremely rare) which included a new fan motor as well. Everything with the A/C system is new including four new A/C hoses, compressor, receiver/drier, inside unit and fan resister. I did not replace the outside condenser because it didn't need replacing. I do have a new condenser unit, but did not find it necessary to install.

Interior is very nice and the seats still have that "leathery" smell. There are no tears on the leather. Dash is in very good condition without any cracks. Very nice headliner, carpets and door panels. Car comes with spare tire that has never been on the ground, jack in the bag and knock off hammer. Here is just a short list of improvements that I have done since I've had this one: New front windshield (XXX from Welsh Jaguar), brand new rubber seals on front windshield and rear window, new brake fluid heat shield, New shocks all around, fog lights (not hooked up but are Aris lamps and will work if wired up, recently replacements from mufflers on back to resonators, rubber bonnet seal and some rubber door seals replaced.

When I got the car, there was a "hum" coming from the rear end, so the rear end was dropped and the differential was replaced with a silky smooth one. Second gear scrubs a little sometimes, but the clutch is strong and that's probably just a matter of an adjustment down at the clutch slave cylinder linkage. While the rear end was dropped, I replaced the emergency brake pads and the regular pads on the unit. We also yanked out the driveshaft and replaced both, the front and rear u joints. Since we had to remove some of the interior to get to the front driveshaft u joint, I went ahead and replaced the emergency brake light switch. All of the hard work on this Jag has already been done and the car is ready to drive as it is. I've done most everything short of a major restoration on this one, so it is time for it to go to a new home. I know these cars fairly well and this is my seventh E Type. A/C has been converted to 134. There was some slight repair work on the very tip of the nose years ago (before I got the car). The work was professional and you really cannot tell it.

Car returns to ebay 5/11/18

Car has a buy it now price of $54,900 for 9 days, seller motorcarstudio, 62k miles, same location.

Sellers description:
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1969 Jaguar XKE coupe. This E-type is an excellent driver with superb mechanicals and desirable air conditioning, showing 62,000 miles. It has been with the same enthusiast owner for five years here in Atlanta and has seen an extensive recent mechanical freshening by a marque specialist. The paint and body show to a nice driver standard and the trim and chrome are in good original condition; the original interior has held up well with some wear, mainly on the leather seating surfaces -- it feels broken in without being shabby. The overall feel is honest and unmolested with just enough patina that one would not be afraid of extended touring use.

The current owner has done just that, putting about 5,000 miles on the car on several road trips through the southeast. This Jaguar has proved quite reliable thanks to a complete drivetrain overhaul with some choice upgrades. Engine rebuilt including three-angle valve job, Isky XM-2 grind cams, triple carb setup with early-style manifold, electronic ignition, new motor and transmission mounts, cooling system overhaul and spin-on oil filter conversion. Four-speed manaul gearbox was also rebuilt with new synchros and new clutch (and hydraulics). Full suspension and brake service including ball joints; new Vredestein tires. A/C system fully overhauled, and more. A detailed "spec sheet" with pertinent part numbers is available.

Ask any Jag enthusiast and you'll hear that although a Series I car may have a slight edge in the pure design details, a Series II car is the one to get if you actually want to drive it. We've driven countless E-types but can't remember one that drives better than this car. It is truly quick even by modern standards with confident handling, excellent brakes and an overall "put-together" feel that is often lacking even in "restored" examples. If you are looking for a coupe to drive you will be hard pressed to find a better example.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
