Sellers description:
1969 Jaguar XKE Coupe - 10,600 miles
This is the best Jaguar XKE I've driven. We've had several nut and bolt restored Series 1, 1 1/2 and Series 2 XKE's, but never anything as original as this one, in this condition. This is absolutely like driving a 10,000 mile pre-owned Jag. It's as if you walked onto a dealer's lot in the early 70's and found a low-mile, one-owner trade-in.
Wearing a stunning coat of Regency Red and decked out in Biscuit interior, this 4 speed 10,600 original mile coupe is just a glorious example of one of Britain's greatest sports cars.
I recently bought a car collection from a former Jaguar dealer, which included this amazing XKE. I expected a great car, but when I saw it I was stunned, then when I drove it, I was FLABBERGASTED. Since I've had it back here in North Carolina, I've encouraged my Jaguar mechanic and Jaguar buddies to drive it, as it may be their only-ever opportunity to really feel how a new Jag would have driven. It's wonderful, the shifting in particular feels so much smoother than any restored car I've had.
Exterior, The car is in excellent condition all the way around. There are no significant blemishes in the body, paint, glass or metalwork. I walked around the entire car with a paint meter and determined the paint to be consistently of factory thickness. The only blemishes in the paint are several small rockchips in the front. The wheels are original and shiny.
Interior, Wonderful! Exactly what you'd expect of a well-cared for 10,000 mile luxury sports car. The leather is soft and supple, indicative off a car which has been kept in climate-controlled conditions. The carpet, dash, headliner and cargo area are all excellent. There is one spot on the carpet, under the driver's seat, where a tube of glue had been left for several (we really have no idea how many) years and leaked. We had to cut the tube out, but left the carpet in tact. One of those things that if you didn't know it was there, it would take you a while to see it, but I will always disclose any fault that I know of. One thing that I have to mention is the ashtray; it's like brand new. I have never seen an ashtray in a 40 year-old car that looks like this, not a hint of age.
Mechanics, as described above, this XKE is great. When it was delivered, we put in a new battery, checked and changed the fluids, plugs and thermostat. We replaced the brake fluid and bled the brakes. We also replaced the exhaust resonators.
Misc, The electrics; interior lights, exterior lights, original radio, fans, etc, are all in good working order. The doors lock crisply and easily with the key. When was the last time you read that about about an original, unrestored XKE? It appears to be riding on the original tires, which are in surprisingly good condition. I've put over 100 miles on these tires and feel comfortable driving at city speeds. I've opened her up a couple of times on longer, straighter roads and it handles fine, but I would put on a newer tire, if I was planning on keeping it and driving it on a regular basis. I have applied for a British Heritage Certificate, which will be delivered to the new owner, if the car sells before it arrives.
Books, tools and title, This Jaguar has a clean and clear title, which we have in-house. It comes with the original owner's manual, original maintenance book, a full set of original tools and a spare, which appears to have never been used.
