on auction at Brightwells
www.brightwellslive.com/timed-sale/5524/lot/669972%2ftimed-sale%2f5524
Description:
From a deceased estate; in single family ownership for 50 years; showing just 20,000 miles
Delivered personally by the manager of P J Evans in Birmingham to his great friend and Godfather ('Uncle Dub') to his eldest daughter, this attractive dark blue Series 2 FHC has led an unusual life.
It's original owner, Mr Dubois of Solihull drove the car as normal, selling it to his great friend (the aformentioned manager of P J Evans) in the early '70s by which time it had covered just over 19,000 miles.
His job at P J Evans provided plenty of luxurious and exotic cars to drive, so the E-Type barely, if ever, got driven. It was fired up regularly, but was to tot up fewer than 1,000 miles over the next 50 years.
In fact it was not taxed or MOT'd for so long that its registration number lapsed, the vendor's late husband reclaiming its original number KEK 965J from the DVLA in 1998 hence this is now non-transferable. The DVLA didn't pick up its first owner from the original Buff Logbook on file - the V5C showing just the vendor and her late husband.
In early 2007, in a fit of enthusiasm, the car was recommissioined at a cost of £1,300 which included work to the carburettors, cooling and fuel systems. The brake master cylinder was overhauled and the engine was comprehensively serviced. He also added a set of wire wheels to replace the original steel rims which are included in the sale and converted the car to use unleaded petrol.
It was MOTd, the mileage at this time showing 19,885. Further bills on file show yearly expenditure on ignition and carburation, although subsequent MOTs show just a handful of miles being added each year. There is also an invoice for some new pistons and rings in 2010.
The last test it had was in 2016 showing 20,000 miles exactly, the same figure it shows today, the garage used for the MOT being just a stone's throw from his house. It has not been driven on the road since, although is up and running and has been driving around onsite at Brightwells.
The car has been garage stored for almost all of its life - time having left its mark in a few places. There is some microblistering on the roof, some small areas of bubbling on the bonnet (photographed) and for some reason the driver door hinges have worn. There is no serious corrosion visible as one would expect, the interior is mainly good but the underbonnet area could do with detailing too.
It is however most original and the family have confirmed that as the car was never really used, the mileage is correct.
Sold with its original buff logbook, old and current V5Cs and seven old MOTs, this low mileage E-Type is a rare find and will make a fine car.
