Jaguar E Type Coupe
This is a genuine, RHD 2 seater E Type Coupe - not a 2+2.
The Jaguar has the best combination of a 4.2 litre, 6 cylinder engine with triple 2" SU carbs, manual gearbox, chrome wire wheels and a Webasto folding sunroof.
First registered in 1970 in the UK, then bought by her second owner (Mr Capaldi) in 1972. He literally drove the car onto the QE2 in Southampton docks when he emigrated to California later that year.
Mr Capaldi kept his E Type for the past 38 years and has used it regularly on the roads around his home in Los Angeles....and has only sold the car because at 68 he feels too old for it now.
The E type starts, steers and stops, but now needs some TLC as the paintwork is quite tired and a repaint would work wonders. The Jaguar was originally Old English White, with black interior and was repainted red in the US many years ago. The typical areas to check for rust such as the bottom of the doors, floors and sills seem sound. The drivers side sill looks to have had a repair at some point and would be redone if you were repainting the car, as would the rear panel by the exhaust tailpipes .As I am no expert on bodywork, I would advise prospective buyers to come and look for themselves, if possible. In the interior photos, the carpets have been removed to show the condition of the floors.
She needs some attention to the interior trim, mainly the drivers seat and headlining and a general tidy up on the under dash wiring, door cards etc. The drivers door lock needs checking as the door will not release from outside - it could just be disconnected linkage . Other small items like the windscreen washer jets being relocated on the bonnet rather than on the scuttle could either be addressed or simply left as is.
Mechanically, the E Type has around 60 psi of engine oil pressure when cold (normal for the model) and the gearbox and clutch seem fine, the clutch release bearing is just audible, but seems to be getting better. The diff is 'clonky' so would need to be rebuilt. The car does not blow any smoke, but I would recommend a full service with new oils, check valve clearances etc.etc. The engine has been fitted with a Pertronix electronic ignition system, sports air filters and both cooling fans work just fine.
The bumper overriders have a couple of dents and the rear bumper could do with being rechromed at some point. The chrome wire wheels are not as new but are very presentable and she has good tyres and exhaust (with a very slight blow at the manifold joint). The original jack and wire wheel tool is with the car.
All in all, this is a great opportunity to do a light restoration and have a very usable E Type. Or, to go a stage further and make the car perfect.
This is quite possibly the best priced E Type fixed head coupe available in Australia - the current issue of 'Just Cars' values the S2 FHC at between $35,000 and $110,000....
Inspection is welcomed, but before the end of the auction please.
I am happy to ship the Jaguar anywhere but please note that the shipping costs are to borne by the buyer, although I will help with the arrangements as much as possible.
Also, all monies are to clear into my bank account before the car can be sent or collected.
Thanks for looking and good luck if you decide to bid.
To answer a question that has been asked a couple of times now:- Yes, I do have the necessary Import Permit for the Jaguar and the car can either be fully registered, or club registered.
