I purchased this car in November 2005 having been in storage since 1975 with only 50,000 miles on the clock, it is undergoing a full restoration.

The car was completed and put back on the road in August 2008 in near concours condition, the seats and most of the interior have not been changed as they are in good condition and have the optional white piping
The car runs well and has been used in subsequent summers for shows and touring.

• Only circa 6,500 miles since completion

This Series 2 E-Type comes with a Jaguar Daimler Vehicle Information Sheet showing that it was built as a right-hand drive fixed-head coupé and originally finished in cream with white-piped black interior. The car was retailed via the P J Evans dealership and originally registered as 'POL 70G', its current mark.

This car was one of the E-Types owned by the late John Foss of Ashey Road Garage; it was laid up in 1975 having covered 50,000 miles and passed into the ownership of a member of John's family. The current vendor purchased the car in November 2005 with a view to restoring it and putting it back on the road, a painstaking process that had consumed over 1,700 hours and cost £11,500 by the time it was completed in 2008.

The body required major surgery to cut out the rusty panels and replace with new; all metal was zinc coated prior to welding in and then Waxoyl treated to prevent rust. A second-hand bonnet was purchased to replace the original, which was beyond repair, and this was stripped and blast cleaned before being repaired where necessary prior to re-assembly. After re-assembly the bonnet was adjusted to fit the car and then removed, bonded where necessary and repainted. All defective working parts were replaced and new wheels and tyres fitted. A photographic record of the work comes with the car and makes for interesting viewing. There is also a small notebook listing all parts used in the restoration and a log of labour time for the period 2005 to 2008. The recorded mileage in 2008 was 50,700, and at time of last MoT in October 2021 was 57,000.

More recently (in March 2022) respected marque specialists Twyford Moors had the cylinder head rebuilt, fitted 123 electronic ignition and a new battery, and carried out other works. Additional upgrades include 6" wide wheels; Polybush suspension; a stainless steel exhaust system; and a stainless mesh grille. Twyford Moors' bill for £5,323 is on file together with others for spares and general maintenance dating from 2012 to the present day. The car also comes with a V5C Registration Certificate and a copy/reprint of the 'Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook'.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
