This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster is finished in blue over beige and is powered by a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the owner in 2014, and refurbishment work in 2017 consisted of rebuilding the carburetors, refreshing the suspension and brakes, resurfacing the cylinder head, and replacing the main bearings, piston rings, oil pump assembly, timing chain guides, front crank pulley, starter motor, rear main seal, clutch, and exhaust system. Equipment includes a tan cloth soft top, tan tonneau cover, chrome bumpers, dual side mirrors, 15″ wire wheels, an analog clock, and a Pioneer stereo. This XKE is offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and clean California title.

The car left the factory finished in British Racing Green and was repainted in blue during prior ownership. Exterior details include a tan cloth soft top, tan tonneau cover, chrome bumpers, dual side mirrors, and polished exhaust tips.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels wear Jaguar-branded center caps and are wrapped in 205/70 Goodyear Assurance tires. Stopping power is provided by servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The subframe mounts, upper and lower ball joints, rear brake rotors, and steering rack assembly as well as the bushings for the upper control arms, lower control arms, and sway bar were replaced in 2017.

The cabin has been retrimmed and features beige upholstery on the bucket seats, door panels, and center console. Equipment includes an analog clock, a Pioneer stereo, a heater, and a lockable glovebox.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer. Auxiliary gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 74k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and is said to have been rebuilt using an MK X block during previous ownership. Work performed since 2017 has consisted of rebuilding the carburetors, resurfacing the cylinder head, and replacing the main bearings, piston rings, oil pump assembly, timing chain guides, front crank pulley, starter motor, and rear main seal.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch and exhaust system were replaced in 2014.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the engine number, chassis number, and colors.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
