Car to be at auction 8/17
www.mecum.com/lots/CA0817-300049/1970-jaguar-e-type-series-2-roadster/

This gorgeous 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster has undergone a ground-up restoration and has been awarded JCNA Top National Honors with a near-perfect score of 99.95 points. This E-Type features the incredibly rare option of factory air-conditioning, furthering its desirability. Regarded as one of the most influential designs in automotive history, the E-Type was first introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1961. It was a sensation, as the Jaguar captivated the crowd with its stunning style and proportions. The beauty was in no way skin deep, as the car was actually at the cutting edge for the time with features such as monocoque construction, 4-wheel independent suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, inboard rear disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering. The E-Type produced some breathtaking performance for the time with a top speed of 150 MPH and a 0-60 MPH time of 6.7 seconds. This is a Series 2 version of the E-Type that experienced a four-year production run from 1968-71. The Series 2 E-Type was brought about due to the 1968 Federal Safety Mandates imposed by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. The Series 2 car differentiates itself from the Series 1 predecessor through several changes: the removal of glass covers to reveal an open-headlight design; the addition of side marker lights on the front and rear fenders; a one-piece rear bumper with larger tail lights; an enlarged front-grille opening to allow greater air flow; rocker switches replacing toggle switches on the dashboard; dual Stromberg carburetors replacing triple SU carburetors; the addition of headrest restraints on the seats; the elimination of the two-prong knock-off retainer nut to an earless design requiring a special spanner; and a new ribbed valve-cover design. This stunning E-Type Roadster presents beautifully in its Light Blue exterior with Biscuit-colored leather interior.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
