Lightly modified for greater enjoyment and drivability, this ex-US restored E-type has been enhanced with Weber carburation and 5-speed gearbox. It now goes as well as it looks! ”
Perhaps not one for the purist, but this is certainly one very special E-type, with a high quality older UK restoration and some well considered dynamic enhancements, this is one of the smartest looking and nicest driving Series 2 E-type out there.
Finished in Indigo Blue with a dark blue leather interior, this ex-USA Jaguar E Type Roadster - or Open Two Seater (OTS) - returned here after 20 years. A restoration commenced straightaway, a lengthy process that included a right-hand drive conversion in addition to the usual bodywork, engine, transmission and interior trim.
Richard Woods, the seller and a member of the Jaguar Drivers’ Club, bought it in 1990, which means it’s been in the family now for an (interrupted) three decades; he used it until 2023 before passing on the baton to his daughter.
Dr. Woods tells us it’s remained in excellent health with 40psi oil pressure at tickover thanks to a meticulous professional servicing regimen that has also ensured “taut, sure-footed handling”.
Further minor remedial work was carried out by RetroMarques in 2020-21, another involved process that set him back thousands of pounds.
Being offered with photos of the original restoration plus many dozens of invoices, a wad of expired MoT certificates, and a workshop manual and owner’s handbook, he is managing the sale of ‘TNA 148J’ on his daughter’s behalf.
