Auction description:
Auction Date: 22 October 2011
Lot 379 - 1969 Jaguar E-Type SII Roadster
Registration: SFW 452H
Chassis Number: IR1217
Engine Number: 7R6527-9
Odometer reading: 17
Estimate: £30,000-£38,000
Hammer: Sold
Plus Commission: £32,480

Presented in possibly the best specification with classic Carmen Red with a contrasting black leather interior, this example has also had a mechanical restoration by the previous owners; comprehensively undertaken with a photographic record and with all components laid out correctly, photographed and re-assembled. The current owner, an experienced collector and restorer then undertook a further restoration concentrating more on the bodywork, brightwork and ancillaries. An uprated exhaust has also been fitted giving slightly increased performance and exhaust note and, combined with a full one year MoT test certificate, green log book, extensive history folders and photographic record of the mechanical restoration all points to a sound and well-looked after example of what Enzo Ferrari called, "the most beautiful car in the world."

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
