eBay/Kruse auction, Scottsdale, AZ 1/12/2002, lot #530. Sports Car Market report:

Four-speed. Chrome wires. Plenty of overspray. Older top has discolored rear window, lots of wear to original interior. Same owner past 25 years. Car card states "motor rebuilt 25 years ago." Is this an attribute?

Sellers description:
This is a genuine BARN FIND!!!. Located today Monday April 19th.

1970 Jaguar XKE convertible with hardtop. Will be sold to at estate sale (unless sold sooner) on Saturday May 1st.

A friend of mine died many years ago and I assumed all of his cars had been sold when his estate was liquidated, however one car remained in his workshop untouched for many years. His widow has recently been forced to sell their home and she asked me to help identify his many bins of old Austin Healey, MGA and Jaguar parts. While sifting through the piles of old parts, I was shocked to find his XKE was still in his shop very much as he left it.

This car was very driveable when it was parked those many years ago before his death. I am sure it would still run if the fuel system is cleaned out and a new battery is installed. I guess someone has been keeping air in the tires as none of them were too low nor do the show signs of having been flat for any length of time.

On Apr-20-10 at 20:34:35 PDT, seller added the following information:

I spent a bit more time looking at the car today. It is amazingly stock. The owners report the mileage as acurate at 89981 original miles. The car has Air Conditioning and is in very good overall condition. In the next few days we will install a charged battery and turn over the engine, We may try and start it if everything looks good. If we do we will take video and post it also. Notice the kits in the trunk and the factory manual and original documents.

We do not know why he parked the car in his workshop as nothing is taken apart? It looks as if he was about to start doing some work on it, but we don't know what work was just yet. His wife says he drove it in there, and adds they had taken it for a weekend outing just days before..

Car has re-appeared as a RHD car with triple SU's and no air con in Australia. Same colour and looking quite nice, some tell tale signs that it was originally LHD washer bottle and header tank on wrong side.
Car is for sale at Classic Throttle Shop Sydney NSW for $109'995 mileage now 101050.

Car now in melbourne australia, I bought it from a guy in Sydney who did all the work on the mechanicals. Still very original and great fun to drive with friends in Victoria and Tasmania. Strong reliable and used relatively often.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
