Sellers description:
1969 Jaguar xke -I have had this car for about 10 years. It has been garage kept. We have had a new motor put in about 4 years ago. It has been restored in the last year- not body off but the next thing to it. It has new paint, new carpet, new leather seats, new floor pans----- much much more . At cost of 32,000.00. THe top is not new but in good condition, It is a beatiful car and a great driver .a real head turner!

The car is definitely a converted 2+2, although the owner seems not to be aware and is relying on the serial number being correct for an OTS - which it is. The doors, windscreen, bulkhead, wipers, seat mounts and other clues all say 2+2 and they cannot be changed without throwing the car away and starting with another. Stamping a new number on or swapping a numbered picture frameis child's play by comparison. Nevertheless, a nice conversion so long as the original owner of the serial number knows it now sits on another vehicle...

Also the top would have had to come from a series 3 OTS.
So given the replacement engine, 2+2, 6-cyl wheelbase, OTS sheet metal (of known Series II origin, or of unknown Series III origin, or from new replacement stock). and a top (from unknown Series III origin or from new replacement stock), this vehicle could be a collection of parts from 4 vehicles, whose only commonality with the S/N is possibly from used OTS sheet metal.
It really should be assigned the 2+2 serial number because if I had an unidentifiable, possibly altered OTS I wanted to put put on the market, I would now have a serial number (this one) to validate its existence, thereby calling into question this possibly legal but undocumented modification.
