Seller Private

This 1970 Jaguar E-type Open Two-Seater (or OTS, Jaguar’s official name for the convertible body style) is presented as the first one built for the 1970 model year, as indicated by its VIN on the title and the chassis number on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. As indicated by the certificate, this was originally a Canadian market car. The seller declares it has been owned by the same family since new. The miles shown are believed original, and the drivetrain is believed by the seller to be original as well. The car presents very nicely in the provided photos, with the only visible signs of wear being on the seats. The seller states that the car is “rust-free” and “has been garaged since new and never driven in rain.” The seller is helping the owner, a family member, to get the Jaguar listed for sale online.

This 1970 Jaguar E-type OTS is a Series 2 model. The Series 2 had arrived for the 1969 model year, bringing several updates to meet U.S. motor vehicle safety and emissions regulations, including a collapsible steering column, head restraints for the seats, and a locking ignition switch. The 4.2-liter engine still packed a big punch.

POWERTRAIN

The 1970 E-type’s XK 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six used two Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 246 horsepower by the manufacturer when new. Performance was still quite stirring, as the roadster weighed under 2,800 pounds. The seller says that the engine is original and in good running condition, and the car starts right away with the manual choke. He affirms the engine runs well, with no smoke observed, and that there are no leaks or weeps. Photos show a clean and dry engine compartment. The four-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, he states.

EXTERIOR

The seller states that the vehicle’s Pale Primrose Yellow paint is in “excellent” condition, with no blemishes noted. The car’s chrome bumpers and trim appear to still shine in the provided photos. The seller reports that the convertible top has no leaks and that the glass and windows are clear and in good condition. The seals are described as “fine with no leaks.” Some minor rust can be seen on part of the convertible top’s frame in the provided photos. All lights work as intended.

INTERIOR

According to the seller, the car’s carpet is in good condition, and the interior wood trim is intact. The black leather of the driver’s seat shows considerable wear and surface cracking. The passenger’s seat looks better. The seller affirms that the manual seat adjustments work. He also says the heat and all gauges are working properly. A “high power” Alpine aftermarket stereo is indicated. Photos show a very clean trunk area, both the carpeted luggage area and beneath, where the spare wheel is stored.

CHASSIS

The seller describes the suspension as “in good shape” and reports new front shocks. The age of the Hercules radial tires was not specified, and DOT manufacturing date codes could not be seen in the provided photos. He says the steering is “fine” and the four-wheel disc brakes work as designed.

DOCUMENTATION

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean New Jersey title in the owner’s name. He is helping the owner, a family member, to get this 1970 Jaguar E-type Open Two-Seater listed online for sale, with his permission. The convertible includes its original tool kit, as seen in photos. The seller will include the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. It is tough to top a Jag E-type for beauty and fun in a classic car. This one, indicated to be the first 1970 model made, could have added appeal at Jaguar meets, concours events, and local car shows.
