Ebay item 6/18/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $8,000, no reserve, no bids yet, 5 days left in auction. VIN on this car is J681E79152. Auto trans.

Sellers description:
IMPROVED E-TYPE 5.0 FUEL INJECTED MOTOR

This is a very nice older restoration e-type, it has a metallic green paint job, with tan interior..

The car has a FORD 5.0 motor in it and it runs and drives and stops very well.

I am selling this for a friend because he is having his 3rd child and needs to make room.

I was lucky enough to drive this car...I took it to a car show and won a plaque...I could not figure out how the ac worked and the radio is no good plus it shifts a little hard between 1st and second unless your are hard on the gas

Its an older restoration so the paint has small issues in areas.

The mileage is unknown.. not sure how many miles were on it before the restoration/transplant

IF YOU LIKE E-TYPE's YOU WILL LOVE THIS ONE

Car returns to ebay 6/21/09

Opening bid $10,000, no reserve, no bids yet 5 days left in auction. Car is now in Arlington, Texas.

Sellers description:
Uniquely affordable and drivable because the engine has been replaced with a fuel injected mustang 5.0 liter engine and a Ford automatic transmission. I purchased this car as a driver and indeed it was my only transportation for 2.5 years. I took a new job and no longer have covered parking at work. Not wanting to leave it in the Texas sun and hail, I bought something a little more practical and am not driving the E-type enough to justify keeping it. The car is currently registered and has current inspection in Texas. Ready to drive away.

The original conversion and fix up was done in California where the car resided until I moved it to Texas. Around 1990, a talented mechanic performed the transplant and also replaced the brake master with a later model XJ unit. Power steering was installed (I believe from an XJ12). It also got a solid respray in a shade just lighter than British Racing Green. I would call this 15ft paint. Looks perfect when driving, imperfections can be found if you are leaning over it. The floor boards and the grill appear to be from a series 3 car.

This is an early series 1.5 which means it has some of the parts from the series 1 and some from the series 2. It does have the nice toggles in the dash and the turn lights are above the bumpers so it has a lot of the charm of the early cars.

This is the only fuel-injected E I have come across. A carbureted Ford 302 will fit in this model, but the converting mechanic was looking for something stronger and had to replace the motor-mounts in order to get the taller engine to fit under the bonnet. I had this checked out by a somewhat famous e-type Jag converter in Dallas and he said the mounts were well done. There has been no hint of problems with the custom work.

This would never be a car you would want to restore to original condition. Too many changes. It is an awful lot of fun to drive though. It should be obvious that there is no warranty of any kind on this 40+ year old car with a 15+ year drive train. If you are not mechanically inclined I would encourage you to have it checked out by a mechanic. (this of course is easier if you are local.)

I may have given more detail than is prudent for selling, but woudl rather you know the whole story. It is a great car and I encourage you to come drive it if you are serious about making an offer.

It needed several things when I got it in 2005-6:

*
Replaced leaky fuel line in boot along with banjo bolt and fuel filter.
*
Exhaust holder was pulling through floor of boot. Fabricated an aluminum brace to better support the quad-pipes.
*
Replaced Alternator and Idler pulley bearing.
*
Replaced Serpentine Belt
*
There was no air filter. Put together an intake tube and K&N filter.
*
Replaced Battery and a couple of fuses in dash.
*
Replaced seatbelts with retracting and more secure ones. (have originals)
*
Replaced plugs and plug wires.
*
Fixed Horn and Parking Brake for inspection.
*
Replaced incorrect and leaky oil pan gasket.
*
Flushed oil, transmission fluid, bake and differential fluids.
*
Replaced bearings in front hubs.
*
Replaced broken radio antennae.

A couple of years ago:

*
Replaced ignition switch which would heat up scary. Re-terminated ignition wires in dash. Fixed.
*
Replaced all four shocks and four springs on the rear suspension.
*
Brake caliper that had a pad incorrectly installed failed. Decided to replace both front with Willwood 4-piston racing calipers. (have one good and one bad original calipers)
*
Replaced stereo with CD-player and fit dash to handle modern stereos. Never bordered the radio though.
*
New tires

Last year:

*
Rebuilt front suspension with new polyurethane bushings.
*
Replaced half-shaft U-joints on the rear end suspension.

Issues:

*
Speedo Cable is popped.
*
Back seat is not bolted in. I drove without it and just put it back in yesterday.
*
AC Blower motor is no good. System did hold pressure and worked until the blower died. I don’t know much about AC and could not figure a replacement.
*
Parking Brake is strong enough for inspection but that is about it.
*
I also don’t know much about adjusting automatic trannys. It shifts very smoothly under decent acceleration. It shifts a little hard if you insist on being the last guy to 35mph.
*
Interior needs work. Dash is about perfect and roof liner is nice. Seats, floor coverings and visors are plenty serviceable but don’t do the rest of the car justice.
*
A couple of door scratches and other spots that could use buffing or touch up paint.
*
There is no heater. The converting mechanic removed this to put in the more robust XJ brake master.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
