Lot #74874

This 1968 Jaguar XKE 2+2 was originally sold by Weaver-Beatty Motor Company of Denver, Colorado, and was acquired by the seller from its reported second owner in 1987. Powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the car is finished in maroon over matching leather upholstery and equipped with front and rear seatbelts, a heater, and a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo. Service completed within the last year has included rebuilt carburetors, a replacement brake master cylinder, and replacement clutch hydraulic components as well as a paint correction and touch-ups. This Series 1.5 XKE is now offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, sales documentation, printed ephemera, tire changing tools, service records, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.

The Series 1.5 XKE featured Series 1-style taillights mounted above the rear bumper along with the exposed headlights seen in Series 2 models. This example was finished in Opalescent Maroon from the factory and was reportedly refinished under prior ownership. In 2022, paintless dent repair was performed on the hood, the paint was buffed and polished, paint chips and scratches were touched up, overspray was removed from trim and window frames, and the left door hinge was replaced. The left-front turn signal lens is cracked, and the emblem on the hatch has a broken letter.

The 15″ chrome knock-off wire wheels wear older Avon tires with red stripes. A matching spare wheel with a flat Dunlop tire is mounted beneath the trunk floor, and a hub-removal tool is included in the sale along with a mallet and jack. The brake master cylinder and servo were replaced in 2021.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in maroon leather that are complemented by a matching center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior equipment includes three-point front seat belts, rear lap belts, a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo, a heater, and air conditioning, which the seller states is not working. Wear on the driver’s seat is shown in photos along with separated carpet on the left side of the transmission tunnel. The left door panel is loose and was fitted with replacement chrome trim in 2022. Torn vinyl is noted on the inside of the rear hatch.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a black dashboard that houses a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles, of which approximately 26k have been added by the seller.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors that were rebuilt in 2021. The fuel system was drained and flushed, fuses were replaced, and the engine compartment was degreased and cleaned in preparation for the sale. The battery tie-down is missing, the alternator belt is frayed, and an oil leak is noted by the seller.

Engine stamping 7E55325-9 matches the engine number noted on the chassis tag and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate displayed in the gallery below.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder were replaced in 2021, and detailing work in March 2022 included cleaning the underbody and applying undercoating.

Manufacturer’s literature and a Haynes repair manual are included in the sale along with additional printed material, service records, memorabilia, and a sales slip from Weaver-Beatty Motor Company dated November 2, 1968.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
