Sellers comment:
1968 Jaguar E-Type XKE 2+2 with a Standard 4 speed manual transmission. The engine is the 4.2-Liter I-6. My wife bought me this car in 1996 for Fathers day. It was purchased from a car dealership that was representing a private owner. The odometer does not work and the mileage is locked in @ 44032 miles. I have no idea if this was correct when the car was purchased. Since the purchase of this Vehicle I estimate I have driven it about five hundred (500) miles a year from 1996-2002. I have not driven it over 200 miles since then due to my physical health and am unable to comfortably drive it anymore. This is the reason I am selling the car. I have spent about eleven thousand dollars ($11,000) in the restoration and mechanical maintenance since the purchase of this car in 1996.Most of the work performed was on the mechanics of the vehicle to insure it could be driven safely.
The Body is in good shape. It has had some restoration from a previous owner. There is evidence of some fiberglass work under the driver and passenger side of the car. There is a hole in the bottom of the spare wheel well that requires repairs. The car was painted British Racing Green by the previous owner. It is still in very good condition except for a few scratches, nicks and a few bubbles on the hood of the car. The front windshield has a ding in it but no cracks. The windows, doors and bumper moldings need replaced.
The Interior of the car is original except for the driver and passenger seats. I replaced the diaphragms, foam cushions, and leather purchased from G.W. Bartlett Co. Inc. The backs of the driver and passenger seats are original but in poor condition. They can be sat in comfortably but they need restored as well as the rest of the leather interior. The passenger side door lock will not unlock from the outside with the key. The previous owner had the sun visors and roof interior recovered with a light gray material. I have a new Leather Console Kit that was also purchased from G.W. BARTLETT CO. INC. for $250 but it has not been installed in the car. This kit would be included with the purchase of this car. All the gauges, and pushbuttons work properly but the clock doesn’t work. The speedodometer and tachometer work but sometimes have a tendency to wander up and down during acceleration/deceleration of the engine.
The Engine is a 4.2-liter inline 6 cylinder. It has a small oil leak off the timing gear but it does not affect the performance of the engine. The repairs made on the engine, brake system and others are too numerous to list, but I can provide copies of work performed from reputable businesses that specialize in the restoration and /or repairs on foreign vehicles. The exhaust system has been replaced and is in good shape.
I replaced The Tires after my wife purchased the car and the wheels are original with safety knockoffs. There is an original spare wheel and tire. The chrome is original and in good shape.
