Car was at auction in '08

Auction description:
The Astor Collection
27 - 29 June 2008
Lot 125
1968 Jaguar XKE Series I.5 2+2 Fixed Head Coupe
To be auctioned on Saturday, June 28, 2008
Sold for $30,250
Chassis no. 1E78344BW

Sold new in San Rafael, California, this particular 2+2's first owner was one Mr. Lee Bledsoe, who bought the car in June 1968. Mr. Astor is believed to be the second owner, acquiring the E-Type in 1989 in very original condition before conducting a full engine rebuild and mechanical service immediately thereafter. Although it is presumably finished in its original color, the paint was redone at some point and alongside the excellent brightwork, presents very well with any issues generally being of minor consequence. On the interior, the front black leather seats were reupholstered but the balance of the interior is reported to be largely original as well.

Further benefiting from a factory-installed sunroof, this Series 1.5 XKE is also one of the relatively few 2+2 coupes produced for this series. It has been very nicely preserved, remains very original and appropriately received restoration work where needed, rendering it a very enjoyable example possessing the pride of ownership and thrilling driving experience inherent in Jaguar's E-Type.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
