Car on BAT

bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-jaguar-xke-series-1-5-22-2/

Auction description:

Seller: ToddRCarlson11

Location: Excelsior, Minnesota 55331

Chassis: 1E78170

57k Miles Shown, TMU

4.2-Liter Inline-Six

Four-Speed Manual Transmission

Black Paint

Black Leather Upholstery

Chrome 15" Knock-Off Wire Wheels

Four-Wheel Disc Brakes

Dual Zenith-Stromberg Carburetors

Smiths Instrumentation

AM/FM/Cassette Stereo

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #132953

This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 2+2 coupe is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in da rk blue over black leather upholstery. Equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, a louvered hood, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. This XKE 2+2 coupe was acquired by the seller in October 2022 and is now offered with a clean Minnesota title in the seller’s name.

Series 1.5 XKEs featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I equipment such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This example is said to have been finished from the factory in British Racing Green and was repainted dark blue under previous ownership. The seller states that the rear window needs to be resealed.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in Michelin X redline tires. A matching spare wheel without a tire is housed beneath the cargo area floor. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The parking brake does not work.

The 2+2 cabin features black leather seating surfaces along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Appointments include a heater as well as an AM/FM cassette stereo linked to speakers mounted on each side of the center stack. There are tears in the upholstery on the driver’s seat and center armrest.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. An analog clock and auxiliary readouts are located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, less than 200 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory-equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the engine overheated in 2022 and a power wire was added from the battery to the engine cooling fan as a temporary repair. Various engine wiring was also replaced.
