Ebay item 2/15/09
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $5,100 reserve not met, 2 bids 1 day left in auction.

Sellers description:
THE REAL DEAL...SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED. You are bidding on a nearly rust-free Jag that is complete to my knowledge except for the battery. This is my 38 year old son's car who had carefully driven and cared for it for several years. He decided to further refurbish it, having the carbs rebuilt and tuned and the motor professionally rebuilt but never cranked. He bought all types of front end bushings and installed many. He then became and still is ill and sold the car to a mutual friend who bought more new parts, got in financial trouble and sold it to me. I have another Jag that I am working on along with several other car restorations. In view of the fact that it will be quite awhile before I can reassemble this car, I have decided to offer it on Ebay. It is quite a good Jag. The only rust is on the bottom of the doors and one tiny spot in a floorboard. Recent brake booster, new hoses, new gas tank sender, front end bushings (as I noted), body and window gaskets, stainless bolts and lots of other new items make completion easier. The upholstry is serviceable but for concours presentation, a new interior kit needs to be installed. Of course the body needs painting. The bonnet has some bondo on the nose, from a dent, not rot. A/C was working before disassembly. Mileage shown is 67,000 though state of Florida shows exempt due to age. Don't know if mileage is correct.

Opening bid $10,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 5 days left in auction. Buy it now price $26,000. Car still in Jacksonville, Florida. 67k miles.

Sellers description:
1968 SERIES 1-1/2 JAGUAR IN SUPER CONDITION. FAMILY OWNED OFF AND ON FOR 12 YEARS REPURCHASED TWO YEARS AGO AND LOVINGLY RESTORED. THE REDO OF THIS SOLID JAG INCLUDED:

Engine rebuilt several years ago but not installed until this winter, paired with new clutch, pressue plate and throwout bearing. New suspension bushings and ball joints, motor mounts, various brake lines, hoses , water pump, brake and clutch master cylinders, exhaust down pipes, belts, coil, distributor cap and spark plugs, points and condenser, wheel bearing and all installed with stainless fasteners. Rebuilt items are radiator fan motors (radiator rebuilt several years ago), carburetors, brake vacuum assist unit, wiper motor and heater fan motor. New parts are temperature sender, oil pressure sender, fuel pump, fuel gauge sender, A/C relay, voltage regulator and front shocks. Carpets and virtually all rubber parts (all windshield, window mouldings, hatch and bonnet gaskets) are new. New base coat, clear coat paint.

Car is quite stunning. It has covered headlights and series 1 taillights. It really drives great and brakes as it should. A/C is reinstalled but is not yet working, although it was operation when dismantled. Not a show car or trailer queen and not perfect, but a car to be driven and enjoyed. Mileage is probably not correct and is exempt on title as are all older vehicles in Florida. Tires are older and could be replaced.

Car has a buy it now price of $49,500 for 10 days. Seller austn5, 69k miles, car now said to be in Salem, Virginia.

Sellers description:
This is a very nice classic Jaguar E type coupe. It is a manual version of the 2+2. The car has 69,436 showing on the odometer. This e type has had a serious amount of work done. I will say for the most part it has been redone. It is not perfect, but very nice and can be driven now. This car runs very good. It does not smoke, but does drip a little. Look at the photos and I believe you will agree it is a great deal for the price. (I was going to ask more, but I have a 69 coupe that I am also working on). The paint is nice with only a few minor flaws. The interior is very nice also. The chrome, glass, etc is also in good condition. The underbody is very nice and has a very recent exhaust system. It has a set of very expensive wheels, and besides looking beautiful, will serve you much better than the stock wires. The tires are also in excellent shape. There are no rust issues on the car. The car has covered headlights which make it look like a series one. When you look under the bonnet, it will blow your mind! The engine was rebuilt around 25,000 miles ago according to the former owner. It also received a very expensive triple carb setup. You possibly could buy an e type for less but will have thousands more in it to get it to this level. Also keep in mind that the 1968 E type was a one year production model.

Car to be at auction 3/17
www.brightwells.com/classic-motoring/leominster-classic-vintage/leominster-class ...

Auction description:
1968 Jaguar E-Type S1.5 4.2 2+2 Coupe
Colour British Racing Green
Chassis No. 1E77863
Engine size 4,200 cc
Engine No. 7E54071-9
Documents MOT January 2018 with no advisories; NOVA document; US Certificate of Title; restoration notes from previous owner
Estimate £35,000 - £40,000

Dating from early 1968, this car is the 154th S1.5 2+2 built in LHD and pleasingly it retains the closed headlight S1 bonnet which was only fitted to the earliest S1.5 models. The vendor acquired the car last year from an American gentleman who had owned it for four years. Although there is precious little history with the car, it does come with correspondence from the previous owner dated November 2016 and stating the following information:

"The car has been rebuilt with the drive line. The engine has triple Weber carbs and the original intake set up is boxed and comes with the car. There are no linkage problems and the carbs are dialled in perfect. The dizzy was replaced with a 123 distributor which is fully electronic. The car always starts first time in the freezing cold or the hottest of days. The engine makes great power and the car runs very strong. The exhaust is full stainless steel installed last year. Upgrades include a better GM alternator, new belts and hoses. Some other parts were refinished. The engine compartment is clean. The gearbox shifts well with no problem. A new clutch was installed at rebuild. Brakes fully rebuilt with new master cylinder, reaction valve, upgraded front calipers from SNG Barratt, new flex lines, booster, rebuilt rear calipers - they don't leak, car stops great. Suspension rebuilt with new ball joints, shocks etc. The rear was taken apart and the bearing run out inspected and fine polished uprights new springs and shocks [sic]. The ride is very nice and handles well in tight corners. This was a Florida car and the floors are original along with the trunk floor. The body is rust free with average panel fit. The car was repainted two years ago in British Racing Green. The original colour was yellow. All the exterior chrome was replaced and the bumpers are NOS I found. The door chrome is repro from SNG Barratt. The interior chrome is all original and looks great for its age. New carpet, rebuilt front seats in leather. Rear seat is in very nice original condition, the headliner is original along with the other panels which show very well."

On inspection it is clear that the car is also fitted with uprated Kenlowe fans and a modified oil breather/catchment tank and that the tyres and wire wheels are also new. The spare wheel is alloy. A period Becker Europa radio is also fitted and the car retains what appears to be its original and complete tool roll and wheel changing kit. The factory-applied body number tag is still in place on the rear valance where the number plate goes, as is the original 'Made in England' tag below the chassis plate, all adding credence to the fundamental originality of the car's structure. The number on the chassis plate also matches that on the engine making this a 'matching numbers' machine.

Running and driving beautifully on the occasion of our visit to take these photos, it has an MOT valid until January 2018 with no advisories recorded. Although it is not yet UK registered it comes with a NOVA document showing that all duties have been paid and a US Certificate of Title so getting it registered here will be straightforward with the requisite DVLA form. Converting it to RHD would also be straightforward if desired, using parts readily available from specialists such as SNG Barratt.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
