Sellers description:
1968 Series 1.5 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 Coupe. 72K miles. Automatic. 4.2 Liter 6 Cylinder. Runs VERY well.....Rebuilt carburetors. It also drives, but the rear brakes are very sticky and will need attending to for it to be roadworthy. Car is 99.9% complete. Missing radiator, front bumper emblem and keys. TITLE IS CLEAR AND IN MY NAME.

I rescued this from a widow who parked it under a carport and covered it when her husband died in 1998. The car was in PRISTINE condition when parked. I am in touch with the mechanic who last worked on it in 1998. He replaced the entire braking system and tuned the engine up. I got it running by rebuilding carbs, then setup an auxiliary gas can and hot wired coil to the battery. Transmission moves car in all gears, but the rear brakes are very sticky...they will need to be attended to. Source a radiator and have the gas tank cleaned and you are ready to go!!!! Great care was taken in getting this car running... no I did not overheat it....it was run for short times, carefully observing engine temperature. I tried my best to get the keys...but the widow did re-marry at one time and thinks the keys are with the ex-husband and did not want to explore that. One of the front turn signals is clear, one is colored...not sure why, this was like this upon purchase.

The interior was redone in the late 1980's according to the widow. Car was also painted at this time. The body is in very good condition. Trim is in great shape. All glass is good. Original color appears to be dark grey. The paint has held up pretty well, but is peeling here and there. The paint on the roof is the worst...as it is checked. Around 1999, the widow wanted the bonnet perfected, as it had a small dent on the driver side....it was removed and work was begun....but whoever did the work...according to the mechanic...was an idiot. He had removed some of the paint, but applied filler to the bonnet in places it did not even need it. I simply painted over everything with a color as close to existing, just to preserve it, as some parts were sanded down to bare metal. The underside of the car is VERY solid with exception to the floors at the outer sections lengthwise along where they join up with the monocoque. Other than this, the monocoque is is great shape. Rear tub is fantastic. I have the spare tire hold down bolt. The bonnet does have some corrosion at the bottom and has been worked on some, but overall it is completely usable and complete. I could not verify the electrical components as I have no keys for the car. All wiring is correct and does not appear to have been molested in anyway. The mechanic who last worked on the car, who I am in touch with, verified that the electrical system was good to go, as this was part of his "general tune-up" at the time.

This would be an EASY project to get back on the road. As stated, the car runs and drives...but brakes need attending to. The mechanic stated he used DOT 5 fluid so as not to corrode the brake system.....Observing the fluid....it is clean as a whistle. However, the pistons will need to be removed and cleaned to get them functioning properly again. The weather stripping around the hatch is worn and should be replaced before driving, as it is having trouble holding the rear glass in. All other weatherstripping is pretty old. It appears the person who painted the car ran out of money and skipped this step at the time of the respray. The floors are strong enough to get by with for awhile...... but should be attended to at some point. As stated, the rest of the car is VERY solid.

Here are the data plate numbers: CAR # 1E77768W, BODY# 4E53855, ENGINE # 7E53909-9, TRANSMISSION # 23633. The hole in the data plate is from the mount for the windshield washer bracket.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
