This is a legendary 1966 Series One XKE 2+2 FHC in show condition with an almost complete restoration to Jaguar Club "Driven Class" top condition. The car runs well and won second place in its class at the SFJC Concourse d'Elegance in December 2005 with a net score of 9.956. The car is newly repainted in what I understand to be the correct Jaguar "Golden Sand" color used originally.
I bought the car in mid-2003 and have clear title to it. I purchased it through a dealer in South Florida and I have not made any attempt to trace the registration history of the car. Numbers do not match and I cannot certify to the actual mileage run, but it is clearly not 16,000 miles. The car has been garaged in South Florida since I bought it and now it is only driven to shows and for local runs.
The engine does not smoke and has good oil pressure. It starts very easily and runs well although it tends to run hot in the Florida climate which is very usual for unmodified XKE's. Removing the radiator and flushing it out or fitting an aftermarket improved cooling kit would solve the matter. I have not wanted to fit any non standard parts to the car.
I personally spent 2004 and 2005 doing restoration work on the car including a new brake booster and master cylinder, front brake cylinders overhaul, all new brake and clutch hoses, all new cooling and vacuum hoses, carburettor cleaning and tune up, new battery box and surrounding panels as required, complete paint job, partially to bare metal where required, all new body rubbers and seals including all glass seals and a complete revision of the entire interior trim as required to bring it up to show condition. The wheels and tires are in as-new condition. I have the wheel jack but no tools other than a wheel nut mallet. The exhaust pipes and tail pipes are new but the silencer is old and will need replacement at some time.
There is minor surface rust on some exposed underbody panels but I have seen no evidence of sever corrosion anywhere. The floor panels are rust-free but show signs of the car having bottomed out on occasions.
With attention to the cooling issue and some additional improvements to the fit and finish of the underscuttle trim panels and other areas, this classic is a true collectors car and a potential competition driven class winner.
