An early example of its type (the 2+2 chassis number sequence commenced at 1E50001) this right-hand drive E-Type 2+2 Coupé has the desirable manual transmission. We are advised that the car was undergoing restoration (a process started in 2004) when its late owner died in November 2006, thus bringing work to a halt with the engine, body, suspension and mechanicals having been completed but the interior and certain elements of exterior trim still requiring attention. Detail renovation included lead lining of the sills, Waxoyling of the body under-side and fitting new spoked wire wheels. Finished in classic Old English White with black leather interior, the car is offered with restoration invoices, old-style logbook and current road fund licence/ MoT.

Sold by the Sayer Selection at M and C Wilkinson near Bawtry in February 2020. Abbreviated seller's description below.
    www.sayerselection.com/1966-jaguar-e-type-series-i-22

First registered on 6th September 1966 in West Sussex by Chichester Automobiles, this fabulous E Type has had only 4 owners to date. Found by Murray Scott Nelson of Scarborough in a barn in Littlehampton, West Sussex in pieces. Removed to their workshops to restore and put back on the road in 2006. The last recorded date that the vehicle had been on the road was July 1978 when the MoT expired, a period of nearly 30 years.

It has undergone a detailed mechanical restoration including a complete rebuild of the suspension and steering plus upgrades to electronic fan cooling, fitting electronic ignition, upgrade to the cylinder head, gas flowed, valves polished and seated, rebuilt carburettors, lightened flywheel, balanced crankshaft and conrods, A new stainless steel exhaust and 5 speed gearbox installed, with the original gearbox and propshaft retained and included with the car. The front and rear brakes have been uprated and rear axle overhauled. All the work was undertaken by Tony Shaw Racing of Thruxton.

It was fitted with new doors and wire wheels all round and resprayed in its original colour. The interior has been retrimmed throughout. It is fitted with a Webasto sunroof and Motolita steering wheel. In 2017 M and C Wilkinson rebuilt the engine to Sayer fast road specification. This magnificent all matching numbers vehicle has covered 10,138 miles since its rebuild and comes with its heritage certificate, original bull log book, handbook and comprehensive history file.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
