Ebay item 6/27/07 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-F-H-Coupe-1968-Jaguar-E-Type-Fixed-Head-Co ... Current bid $12,400 reserve not met, 3 bids, 6 days left in auction. 70k miles. Note, numbers are correct for a '68 but this car would not have originally had closed headlights or 3 SUs. And it would have had rocker switches on the instrument panel. Sellers description: This is the best combination of the classic Series I body, trim and interior features with the more powerful 4.2 L 4-Speed Sybchromesh transmission that was developed for a U.S. version, but without the power-robbing emissions controls that were added to Series II exports. It has the classic three, side-draft SU carburetors and Negative Earth electricals best suited to U.S. The car was redone by a retired Jaguar mechanic near Reno, NV in the late '90's. The engine was adapted to unleaded U.S. gasoline of 87-93 octane at that time. I converted it to electronic ignition when I shipped it back to Delaware in 2000, to give it the reliability for everyday driving I required. It has been driven off and on 5 miles each way to my work and back, and garage kept since. Passed Vehicle Inspection for Delaware in Aug '06, and re-registerd until August '08. Stripped to bare metal and repainted in only official British Racing Green with a slight metallic effect that shows lines best. The black leather interior was redone as well in 2006. Opening bid US $25,000 reserve not met no bids 9 days left in auction, seller donflora, 73k miles, same location.

    Sellers description:
1968 Jaguar E-type coupe This is a vey nice driver's car that can be driven anywhere. It features covered headlights, 3 SU carbs, exhaust headers and toggle switches in the interior. Its been in a dealer's collection for the last ten years and was only driven 3,000 miles. In this time period it received, new front brake rotors and hubs, a custom Nardi wood steering wheel, electronic ignition, dark tint over glass, new floor pans, new rear exhaust, and new tubes and tires - Vredestein 185 HR15 on the front and Dunlop 205/70 R15 on the rear. The seats were covered with new leather and the engine head was removed and rebuilt at a machine shop. Additionally, the hood/bonnet was removed and the fender mirrors were removed and the holes fill in and the inside and out side of the hood repainted. The odometer shows 73,300 miles but the original mileage is uncertain. This car has a strong engine that does not smoke, a non-slipping good clutch, and a solid gearbox with no grinding. It has a great exhaust note, is a blast to drive and attracts an enormous amount of attention where ever it goes. It is very reliable and needs nothing, but to be driven. As a personal note, I've owned both convertible E-types and coupes and the coupe is by far the more superior vehicle. If one is looking for a classic E to drive, the coupe is the way to go. The coupe chassis or monocoque is much more stiff, better handling and much more comfortable to drive without all the wind noise of the flopping top. Moreover, many enthusiast believe the lines on the coupe are much more aesthetically pleasing. With this comparison, the good new is the coupes are less expensive than the open two seats - which makes them a comparative bargain for one wishing to acquire a classic E-type. Along with the car go the original steering wheel, the front grill motif bar and the original large air cleaner box and a spare wire wheel and tire that are not shown.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
