Auction ended at $25,655 reserve not met after 9 bids.
Sellers description:
65,235 original miles currently. VIN: 1E35469, Blue metallic exterior, Black English leather interior.
History: I purchased the car in July 2002 from the former president of the Jaguar Club in NH and had it shipped to San Diego. Purchased with only 59,800 original miles. I have the Original Owner Certificate dated 5/13/68. Restoration and engine overhaul occurred in 1987-88 having spent $29,000 (done by Bassett's Jaguar in RI Restoration appraisal dated April 1988 estimates value at $34,000.
Jaguar Concours De Elegance of San Diego (Driven Class). Placed 2nd in Concours 2002. Placed 2nd in Concours 2003. Installed new English leather on seats and transmission shift hump in early 2004. Placed 1st in Concours 2004 - score of 9.865. Jag has only been driven sparingly since, just once or twice a month to keep it purring.
There are only 3 minor alterations, which are all easily reversible: Removal of the fuel flow tube and the installation of a chrome header. This was done to help cool engine, increase performance and give her that nice Jaguar growl. Installation of a modern stereo - Eclipse model CD3403 AM/FM CD player. Installation of a Viper Alarm system Model 300ESP with 2 remote controls.
All original removed items are in boxes and come with the car. Also included is a full set of spare Koni shocks, brand new brake disks & pads in unopened boxes, multiple spare parts, original tool kit in original pouch & jack, several of the original service & maintenance manuals, maintenance charts, books, sales pamphlets, full service history binder dating back to original owner and its restoration. Also, all records of service and parts since I've owned the car, but I'd like to keep all the trophies and awards.
Overall the car is in very good condition, runs very strong and is a real head turner. The ladies seem to like this car as much if not more than the men. Everything is functional, all lights, gauges, fan, hardware, etc. (only clock is disconnected). Upon close inspection one may notice two very minor paint imperfections on the trunk door edge (see photo), easily fixed with touch-up paint. Some of the rubber trim is beginning to show some signs of age, a tad brittle, but can be easily rejuvenated or replaced. The chrome is in amazingly good shape for its 45 years of age. The wheels and chrome spoke rims are in good condition with plenty of miles left on the tires. There is no rust, no bondo and no accident history of any kind on this Jaguar. It's been 100% garage kept, under multiple car covers, pampered like a cat and not let out into the rain or even onto wet streets. The 9.865 judging score reflects how well preserved this car really is. If you are looking for a nice clean turn-key ready to drive and enjoy Jaguar E-type in the top of the concours driven class, that actually drives well and sounds awesome... then this is the one. Make for one hellva Xmas gift

I just bought this E-Type. It was advertised on e-bay but did not make the reserve. I made a deal with the owner and the car is being shipped to Pittsburgh PA from San Diego California. I bought it to replace the 67 XKE that I recently lost in a crash where a drunk driver rear ended me going 85 mph and the car was totaled.
This E-Type seems restored very close to original. I can't wait to drive it. Dan

My new 68 XKE was delivered today (12-26-13) by DAS shippers all the way from San Diego, CA. DAS did a great job with enclosed shipping, the car was just as described by John Edelstein (the former owner) and I am very happy with the car! No, I did not fly out to view the car before buying it- I would liked to have done that, but could not. I relied on the many photos John sent me and his detailed description- he was/is a very honest guy! Also, it turns out that a well known east coast JCNA Jaguar guy, Gary Hagopian, owned the car before John and Gary H. has a great reputation in the Jaguar community! I will do maintainance on the car, upgrade the front brakes and get it ready for springtime driving. I cannot wait to drive it up to Watkins Glen!

I have replaced the Stromberg Carbs with three Webers; replaced the front calipers with Volvo 4 piston calipers and moved the front brake pistons to the rear brakes; replaced the water pump and added an aluminum radiator; replaced all rubber hoses and flexible brake lines and brake bottles. We really enjoyed driving the car this past summer- best brakes on any E-Type that I have ever driven!

Sellers description:
After just completing an 800 mile trip in my 1968 JAGUAR XKE or E-TYPE COUPE (NOT A 2+2 ) to Watkins Glen NY for the Vintage race festival, I have decided to sell the car because at my age, I would like a more modern car with creature comforts like A/C and automatic transmission. I am probably going to miss this car, but here goes:
THIS IS A GREAT CAR TO DRIVE and it draws a lot of attention at any Jaguar event! It is a numbers matching 1968 JAGUAR XKE COUPE, painted in its original color of Opalescent silver blue exterior color with black leather interior. This car was restored to original specifications in 1988 at BASETT'S JAGUAR in Wyoming Rhode Island at a cost of $29000 and all receipts go with the car. Only about 15,000 miles have been put on this car since the restoration. The 1988 Bassett's restoration included a complete engine and transmission overhaul and a new clutch, paint job and wiring harnesses. I have found no rust on this car. I think the sills and floors are all original and in very good shape. I coated the floor foot wells with POR 15 paint to prevent any rust from forming under the carpets. The underside of the car does have a black undercoating- nothing hidden just coated to keep from rusting. The bottoms of both doors are in perfect no rust condition. The bonnet is rust free, the trunk/boot spare tire area also rust free. Carpets are in very nice condition and this car has the original black colored passenger side toe board, original jacking tools and owners manual.
According to the Jaguar Heritage certificate, this cars original owner was a Mr. Lars Lenke of Staten Island NY, who took delivery of this car at the Jaguar factory at Browns Lane, Coventry England on May 13th 1968 and I have the original British number plate issued for the car in 1968. The second owner was Mr Charles MacMillan of West Redding CT. who acquired the car sometime in 1980 and is the one who had the car restored at BASSETTS JAGUAR in Rhode Island in 1987 through April 1988; all the work orders and receipts for the Bassett's restoration go with the car and are available for review. This car was then sold to the third owner in 2001, well known JCNA and Jaguar enthusiasts Gary and Eric Hagopian of Chicopee Mass. They sold the car to fourth owner, John Edelstein of San Diego California sometime in 2002 with 60079 miles on the car, and I bought the car from John in December 2013 with about 65000 miles on the car. Ths car now has 68577 miles on it- I drove it about 1000 miles per year for the past three summer driving seasons.
Since buying this car I have made the following modifications for safety, reliability and performance whilst keeping all of the original parts that will go with the car to the new owner. John Edelstein had already installed the front Koni shock absorbers and the stainless steel headers and stainless exhaust system on the car. I installed the front 4 piston calipers according to the Volvo caliper exchange outlined on the Jaglovers and JCNA websites and these larger brakes work great! I had the two Stromberg carbs professionally replaced by local Pittsburgh Jaguar mechanic Jim Boffo with a three Weber DCOE 45 intake and carb setup. I installed a new 13" steering wheel but that can easily be taken off the car and I can re-install the original steering wheel if the new owner wishes that original steering wheel instead. I installed five new Vredestein Sprint 185 X 15" tires and new tubes on the car in May 2014 and they now have about 3000 miles on them since I drove the car about 1000 miles a year. I installed a new water pump, new HOWE racing radiator from Cool Cat, new radiator hoses and anti freeze in May 2014 and this car never gets near overheating even on some of the 95 degree days we have had this past summer. I installed a Pertronix ignition and new Cool Cat spark plug wires. I installed a back up electric fuel pump and shut off valve in the trunk/boot area with a fuel pressure gauge up front near the fuel filter housing. I had the original clock rebuilt by Mike Eck so it takes a small AA battery and it keeps very good time. I had all of the front end rubber suspension parts replaced with black synthetic, ball joints replaced (upper and lower), and tie rod ends replaced by Jim Boffo and had the car aligned. I installed brand new rear springs and Boge shocks from SNG Barratt in May 2014. I installed new fuel filters- front and added a filter to the fuel line in the trunk. I installed new brake and clutch bottles and caps, sending units and the proper yellow striped hoses. I have all receipts for all work done to this car and they go with the car. The original exhaust manifolds, the original Stromberg carbs and intake, the original radiator and steering wheel can go with the car. Buyer must pick either the original steering wheel or the after market 13" wheel but not both. I have changed the wheel knock offs to the eared knock offs and I have changed the shifter to a beautiful wooden shift handle. The original non eared knock offs and shift handle plus the original owners manual and jack with jack bag and jack handle go with the car.
This car has no wobble or shake at speed and rides very nicely. The chrome wire wheels are in very good shape- may have been replaced at some point, but not by me. The leather seats and leather shift console were redone in 2003 by previous owner John Edelstein who also installed the non original radio and a Viper alarm system- receipts and manuals for the radio and alarm go with the car.
THIS CAR HAS CLEAR STONE GUARD/ STONE CHIP PAINT GUARD APPLIED to all painted areas under the car including the outside sills, under the bonnet mouth and under the boot/rear end area which was applied at Bassetts to keep the paint in good shape but it is not factory applied. Please see photos of the stone guard application areas. As a person who drives the car, I liked having those areas protected from stones and road debris, but it may take points off at a JCNA Concours event- just FYI. It looks good and is very hard to see, but I don't want any misunderstanding later when the new owner gets the car. Most people never even notice the stone guard on the car because it is clear. The chrome is all good- not perfect and it shines very well. All gauges work, all lights work, all switches work as they should.
The Weber carbs were professionally installed but they sometimes put out a popping sound at lower speeds and could use some tweaking although the car runs very well. The windshield is original and has some stone chips and some delamination showing in the passenger side top corner- a very small area but it is there. The car paint is in very nice condition but does have a few chips- two at the rear hatch door and a few at the bonnet front. The front bonnet has two very small blisters which were there when John bought the car in 2002 and they have not gotten any larger- just want to reveal that they exist- I think they are not rust but something got under the primer. The floors have no rust but the two foot wells have been jacked up on at some point so they are slightly pushed in from the bottom by a careless mechanic- just FYI. The car does leak some motor oil, some rear end fluid and some transmission fluid- not bad but as most old British cars leak- this one does also. I used about 1 quart of engine oil in 1000 miles. I always used 20-50W regular motor oil not synthetic. The rubber seals are all good but the rear bumper rubber seal is hardened and could be replaced- I can include one with the car.
ALL in all, this is a very nice, very reliable driver that no expense has been spared to keep at this condition.

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 coupe that was refurbished and modified beginning in the late 2010s through 2020 using styling cues from the E-Type Lightweight cars raced at Le Mans in the early 1960s. Refinished in Opalescent Blue, the car has been fitted an RS Panels wide rear fender kit and Le Mans-style sill end extensions as well as a covered headlamp conversion and a Monza-style fuel filler. The car rides on GAZ adjustable shocks and is equipped with switchable electric power steering in addition to 15″ Dunlop-style wheels wrapped in Avon tires. On the inside, the cockpit has been outfitted with a roll bar and houses GTS Classics fixed-back bucket seats, Crow multi-point harnesses, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, a Retro-Air air conditioning system, and a RetroSound Bluetooth-capable digital media receiver. The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six was overhauled as part of the refurbishment and is fitted with triple Weber carburetors, while shifting is via a four-speed manual transmission. This modified XKE coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with refurbishment photos and records and a clean Arizona title that lists the vehicle as a 1969 model year.
The car was stripped to bare metal and received bodywork by Coachwerks Restoration of Victoria, British Columbia, along with a wide rear fender kit and Le Mans-style sill end extensions sourced from RS Panels SVV Ltd of England prior to a repaint in what is said to be its factory Opalescent Blue. A covered headlamp conversion was carried out, and the bumpers have been removed. Further details include leather hood straps, front and rear tow loops, door-mounted side mirrors, and a Monza-style fuel filler cap.
Realm Engineering 15″ Dunlop-style wheels with bolt-on hubs wear faux knock-off spinners and Avon tires that show 2018 date codes. Wheel spacers have been fitted, and a temporary spare is mounted in the trunk compartment. An EZ electric power steering unit has been installed along with an uprated anti-roll bar up front and GAZ adjustable shocks at each corner. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin has been fitted with GTS Classics fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in blue leatherette with black piping. Crow multi-point harnesses are attached to the welded roll bar, while controls for the Retro-Air air conditioning system and power steering are located below the dashboard. Additional modifications include a fire extinguisher, a kill switch, an alarm system, and a RetroSound Bluetooth-capable digital media receiver with a microphone. The selling dealer states that the removed seats will accompany the sale.
A three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel features a yellow centering stripe and fronts a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer with a blue dial. Auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard above a row of Series 1-style toggle switches. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles.
The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six was reportedly sourced from a 1982 Jaguar XJ6 featuring larger exhaust valves, and it was rebuilt in 2016 by Lippencotts Garage of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. Induction is via triple Weber carburetors that were also overhauled with custom jetting, and additional equipment is said to include Venolia domed 10:1 compression pistons, Hastings piston rings, ISKY Racing Cams camshafts, and ARP bolts. Cooling is through a Howe aluminum radiator with dual CoolCat fans, and the ignition system incorporates a 123ignition distributor, an MSD 6AL ignition box, and a Pertronix Flame Thrower ignition coil. The fluids were refreshed in anticipation of the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The rear differential was overhauled in 2017 and fitted with 3.31:1 crown and pinion gears reportedly sourced from Europe, while the clutch assembly was replaced and the flywheel was machined in 2022. A Classic Fabs dual stainless-steel exhaust system with tubular headers has been installed.
Photos documenting various stages of the late 2010s engine overhaul and photos displaying the refurbishment process will accompany the car.
Chassis number 1E35469 and the sequence is listed as the VIN on the Arizona title with a “I” in place of the “1.”
