This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 coupe was built on February 20, 1968 and reportedly spent approximately 30 years in storage prior to its acquisition in 2011 by the current owner. A subsequent refurbishment was carried out by Randall Fehr Restorations of Seattle, Washington, with work including a bare metal repaint in red, a reupholstered tan leather interior, and rebuilds of the engine, gearbox, and differential. Power is supplied by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and the car is equipped with a period Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo, four-wheel disc brakes, and Dunlop wire wheels. This Series 1.5 XKE is now being offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, rebuilt cooling fan motors, period cast exhaust manifolds, a spare wire wheel and tire, factory steering wheel, a reproduction S1.5 glove box manual, shop manuals, Jaguar-related books, a spare tachometer and clock, photos from the refurbishment, factory literature, and a clean Washington title.

This example was factory-finished in light blue and received a bare-metal repaint in red following repairs of prior damage in the passenger-side rear quarter panel. A 1968 Washington State license plate, yellow-on-blue California license plate, and Brentwood Motors, Santa Monica license plate frame are included with the sale.

The replacement 15” Dunlop wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are wrapped in 185-width Universal Sport red line tires. The brake system features four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears, and the seller reports that a front suspension A-arm has been replaced following damage incurred during previous ownership.

Originally trimmed in dark blue, the cabin has since been reupholstered in tan leather that was reportedly sourced from BAS Jaguar Trim. Rubber mats line the matching carpets, and features include rocker switches for vehicle functions as well as a push-button Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo that has been installed in place of the dealer-equipped Radiomobile unit.

A replacement wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel fronts a suite of Smiths instrumentation that was reportedly refurbished by Palo Alto Speedometer of California and includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows just over 38k miles, approximately 1,200 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown, and the removed factory steering wheel and a spare clock will accompany the sale.

The 4.2-liter twin-cam inline-six was reportedly overhauled by John Maloney of Autosport Seattle in Seattle, Washington, and features rebuilt dual Zenith carburetors along with twin electric cooling fans. The wiring harness has been replaced with an upgraded unit, though a period-style setup is included with the sale, along with cast exhaust manifolds and the factory electric fan motors. Engine block stamping number 7E16100-9 matches the number shown on both the data plate and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual synchromesh transmission.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
