Ebay item 12/15/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-Jaguar-E-Type-Ser-1-5-Coupe-One-Owner-No-Rust-Rebui ...
Opening bid $20,000 reserve not met, no bids 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
Starting at a low bid of $20,000, a 1968 4.2 four-speed fixed-head coupe with only one previous owner and full documentation. Unofficially a Series 1.5, this '68 E-Type was a transitional model without the headlight covers, toggle switches, or triple SU carburetors of the previous model year. This striking Primrose Yellow on black leather Jaguar was purchased new at Empire Sports Car Company in Boulder, Colorado for $5907.50 and delivered on 3-27-68. It remained with the original owner who later moved to Goldendale, Washington. The car has been sheltered and maintained since it left the dealership. It is remarkably rust-free, with one repaint, most everything else is original.

This numbers matching 81,623 mile coupe was discovered in the dry southeast Washington garage where it had been parked for years. The comprehensive log of repair receipts reveal that in 1986 the engine was given a complete overhaul at 68,268 miles by Portland's Monte Shelton Jaguar, and it has clocked a mere 13, 355 miles since. The rear end was rebuilt in 1990 at 75,187 miles ands has done only 6436 miles since. In addition, very recent repairs include a new exhaust system, new shocks all around, new clutch master and slave cylinders, a radiator clean-out, brake flush, and oil change.

For a garage find, this Jag runs out very well, with tight mechanicals and suspension. The engine is in clean unrestored condition. The choke operates efficiently, the motor idles strongly and evenly, with some characteristic straight-six tappet noise. The transmission shifts cleanly, doesn't rattle or howl, the car pulls powerfully and the differential works silently. Brakes grab like they should. No squeaks or jarring from the front or rear suspension of the car.

Overall, an E Type in pretty nice condition, without a lot of evident needs that would soon turn you upside down. The interior is complete, with good leather seating, no rips, tears, or scuffs, and a beautiful dash (with a more modern radio replacing the original). The carpets under the dealer supplied Jaguar floormats could use replacement. We have peeled them back in two of the photos to show the rust-free condition of the driver and passenger footwells, typical rust prone areas. The headliner is clean, the vinyl throughout and in the cargo area is not abraded or faded. And all the little switches, handles, latches, and knobs that are so troublesome to replace are right where the workers at Coventry put them.

The car rolls on Toyo Z 195-75-15s with plenty of tread. Original Dunlop wire wheel with Dunlop spare tire appears to have never been on the ground. All Jacking equipment is intact and little used in the original bag. The pan under the spare is solid and doesn't even show surface rust. No rust has been detected anywhere on this car. The repaint, in the original Primrose, is less than the highest quality, with all rubber components masked instead of removed. Presentable from 20 feet, striking even, there are numerous small chips and flaws throughout the finish. All exterior rubber moldings and gaskets have deteriorated over the years and should be replaced.

Chassis # IE 34934. Engine # 7E15139-9. Transmission # EE 1017. The sale comes with the original dealer's Invoice, Original Owner's Manual in original Jaguar plastic pouch (in unmolested condition) and all repair and maintenance records since the car was new. One Owner, No Rust, Rebuilt engine.

This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 coupe was built on November 29, 1967, and was first sold by Empire Sports Car Center, Ltd. of Boulder, Colorado. It is said to have remained with its original owners until the mid-1990s and spent time in Washington before it was imported to Canada and acquired by the current owner in 2018. The car is finished in Pale Primrose Yellow over black leather upholstery, and power comes from a numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Service performed under current ownership included the installation of a replacement hood, a new clutch, and the removal of the engine, transmission, and rear end for the installation of new seals. This Series 1.5 XKE is now offered on dealer consignment in Canada with original sales documentation, tools, service records from the 1960s to the present, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and clean British Columbia registration.

The Series 1.5 XKE featured early-style taillights mounted above the rear bumper as well as exposed headlights similar to the Series 2. This example is finished in Pale Primrose Yellow and received a new hood in January 2020, reportedly to repair accident damage. The selling dealer notes a previous repaint.

The 15″ chrome wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are mounted with 205/70 Pirelli P4 tires. A matching spare wheel with a Dunlop tire is mounted under the trunk floor. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear units.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather along with matching door panels and carpets. Features include a Jensen cassette player, Pioneer speakers, and lap belts. The seat bottoms were repaired by Styles Upholstery of Victoria, British Columbia, in January 2019.

The replacement wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Auxiliary gauges are mounted above a suite of rocker switches in the dash center. Just over 83k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 1,700 of which were added under current ownership. Mileage entries can be seen on service records dating from the 1960s to the present and a factory steering wheel is included in the sale.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with finned valve covers and twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The engine was removed by Coachwerks Restoration of Victoria, British Columbia, in January 2020, and a replacement exhaust manifold and freeze plugs were installed before the engine was resealed and refitted.

Engine stamping 7E15139–9 matches the chassis tag in the gallery and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The transmission and rear end were removed during the January 2020 engine service, and a new clutch was installed before the units were resealed.

The original sales invoice is dated March 26, 1968, and lists a total sale price of $5,907.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows the original build date, colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers.
